The Thunder came into this game coming off a great win against the Bucks where Cameron Payne scored a career high 16 points. Russell Westbrook took it the duty himself to actually take over the game. Westbrook had 34 points and also had 12 assists tonight and was attacking the younger and less experienced Devin Booker. The good thing about this Thunder win was the fact that they hit big shot after big shot when it mattered. The chemistry was there all night and it is obvious now that Cameron Payne has taken over the 2nd unit and feels very comfortable. The player that everyone won’t talk about during this win will be Dion Waiters his defensive effort getting steals and driving to the basket for aggressive layups. The Suns did hang around for a little bit but the Thunder pulled away in the 4th quarter and were able to suffocate the Suns with pure defense. Kevin Durant and Westbrook both combined for 59 and didn’t have to go to the Hero Ball at all tonight. Knight and Tucker kept the Suns in the game with a combined 51 for themselves.

The Thunder missed a hand full of opportunities but made up for it when it mattered the most down the stretch in the 4th.  Kevin Durant took advantage of having the rookie Booker on him late on mismatch screens and put in some big shots. Westbrook also made some great jumpers to seal the deal. When the Thunder play defense and can score on both ends they are unstoppable and can make the best out of any situation. We are seeing the Thunder go through growing pains but they have emerged into a power house with some great rhythm and chemistry as of late and this win proved just that.

The Thunder will now have to go on the road and play the Hornets on Saturday and then they come back home for the Kings and Memphis. Kemba Walker has been on a tear lately for the Hornets and has been getting career highs so Westbrook will be in for a treat against the former UConn guard. Thunder will need to defend the perimeter and the paint to be able to secure that win before Boogie Cousins comes to town.
