Celtics on 9 Game Losing Streak, Lose to Uptempo Rockets (104-92)

Updated: January 13, 2014

The Celtics came into the game against the Houston Rockets on a 8 game losing streak. The Celtics have been struggling on the road and come back home for the Rockets and hoped to change things but, Dwight Howard and company had other things in mind. The Rockets scored 19 points in the 1 quarter starting off very slow but, as the game progressed to 52 1st half points. James Harden was a proven 1 man fast break and the Celtics had no way of stopping him on the break. Harden was having his way with Avery Bradley who is usually known for his defensive pressure and scored 16 on him at big points in the game.

Early in the game the Celtics offense was very impressive as they were shooting over 60% from the field. Second half the Celtics offense seemed to be rushing a lot of their shots as they were shooting 60% turned into 32% from the field. It should be noted that the Rockets have one of the best big men in the league in Dwight Howard as he had his way with the Celtics interior defense scoring 32 points and 10 rebounds. The only bright spot in the Celtics was Avery Bradley as he scored 24 points and has emerged as a leader on and off the court. Sullinger was very impressive in his return to the starting line up with 6 points and 7 rebounds but it  was going to be hard for him to actually make anything happen with the way Howard was commanding the paint. The Celtics rallied late in the 4th with the play of Jerryd Bayless as he scored 15 in the quarter but it still wasn’t enough to put the Rockets away. The Celtics even tried Hack-A-Howard and it didn’t work the way they needed it too as Dwight was hitting his free throws.

The Celtics play the Raptors on Wednesday and try not to lose 10 games in a row. The Celtics need Rondo to come back as quickly as possible in order to not be apart of the tanking squad. The Celtics have to get things together on the offense and defense and they need to work with Bayless to actually have him run the 2nd unit.
