CONNECTICUT(BASN) — Jarmere Jenkins did it the right way. He graduated from college. And a top one at that, in the University of Virginia.

The 22-year-old is currently ranked 615th in the world after turning pro in June. He is trying to qualify for the US Open this week.

He won his first match in three sets over Gerald Melzer, younger brother of Jurgen. Jenkins was the no. 2 recruit out of high school in Georgia. he didn’t disappoint at Virginia.

He was the ITA National Player of the Year and won the ITA doubles as a senior. He was also named the university’s top male athlete.

Jenkins is a righty and plays like many Europeans, with a baseball cap turned backwards.

He is a very animated player, known for his fist pumping. He also is on record as saying that he loves playing in front of large crowds.

Jenkins has a strong serve, especially down the middle on the tee. He has trouble at the pro level returning the serve out wide and must work on that aspect of his game.
