The Shocking NBA Draft 2013 Winners/Losers

Updated: June 29, 2013

What a wild night last night in the 64th annual NBA Draft…. Everyone was on the edge of their seats when it came down to starting the Draft because, no on knew who would go number 1 in this years draft but the Cleveland Cavs. With the number 1 pick in the draft the Cavs shocked and stunned the world when they selected Anthony Bennett from UNLV. Even Bennett and his family was shocked and when asked if he knew that he was going to be selected number 1 Anthony replied “I was just as shocked as you all were but, I’m blessed and have to thank God for this opportunity”. With Bennett being selected number 1 that makes him the first Canadian born player to go number 1 overall pick in NBA History. Bennett is also the second player to be selected 1st overall from UNLV the last player was Larry Johnson and he embraced all the comparisons to Larry Johnson and said “I can see the comparisons but I want to grow in my own path and try to make a name for myself”.

Victor Oladipo went 2nd to the Orlando Magic which many say was a great fit for him because, he can help the rebuilding core to recover after Howards departure. Victor brings them defense and also transition offense at its best if Victor can apply himself he can be an elite defender in the league down the road. The Washington Wizards selected Otto Porter with the 3rd pick in the draft and that was good because they got Otto who is a player that can space the floor out and actually rebound the ball to get it to John Wall on the transition side of things.

Other notable prospects like Trey Burke and Nerlens Noel had crazy nights as the Minnesota Timberwolves selected Trey Burke at the number 9 spot but then had traded him to the Utah Jazz for the 14th and 21st. The Utah Jazz had opted out of the Mo Williams contract and that will be a great fit for Trey Burke to actually excel in the league and grow as a true point guard that everyone knows him for. Burke was the College Player of the Year last year in the NCAA and can bring that scoring and great court vision into the Jazz system. On the flip side Nerlens Noel was drafted by the New Orleans Pelicans and then was notified during an interview that he was traded to Philly to play along side his best friend Michael Carter Williams. Noel was traded to the Sixers from the Pelicans which sent Noel and their 1st draft pick in next years draft for Jrue Holiday of the Sixers. The Sixers got the better of this deal to me if Noel can show promise and also if the Pelicans are a lottery team again next year their draft rights will be the Sixers which could give them a chance at Wiggins and Parker for next years draft.

The Winner – Philadelphia Sixers , Sixers get 2 lottery picks and a lottery pick for next year.

The Loser – Charlotte Bobcats, they get Cody Zeller over Noel hmmmmm I believe they should of traded the pick for a quality player.
