Celtics Clinch Playoff Spot and Take Care of the Pistons (98-93)

Updated: April 3, 2013

The Celtics clinched a playoff spot tonight beating the Pistons and right now if the playoff’s started today would be 7th seed in the Eastern Conference. The Celtics are a team that has been around the block and know how to overcome anything that comes in the way of success. The Celtics are a team that can be confusing one minute they play the big games and stand out against the Heat and etc and then they lose to teams like the Bobcats by 20+. This team has a story to tell and in the playoff’s they will be able to show what that story is as they show us what Celtic Pride and what the 18th Banner mean to them and this city.

The Celtics came into this game against Detroit not taking them lightly and its a great thing they didn’t take them easy because, the Pistons came out on fire. The Pistons grabbed every rebound that was on the offensive and defensive end and also Monroe and Drummond were making every basket that they attempted. It seemed like the Celtics weren’t going to get their heads in the game until Jeff Green broke out with a couple of aggressive plays that attacked the basket. When Green attacks the basket and tries to create for himself it opens up the floor a lot more for the shooters like Pierce. The Celtics were in a tight game but come out on top especially since Bass stepped up his game with (17) if he can do this on a regular basis while KG is out that will be a huge help to Doc’s scheme. The Celtics had let up in the 3rd quarter and let the Pistons back in the game after having a double digit lead. The Celtics took the foot off the gas as they made a lot of mistakes that they were not used too and also they turned the ball over too much. It’s noticeable that the Celtics need a true point guard to lean on and they seem to still be looking for it which is very sad going into the playoff’s. The Celtics bench had contributed to (17) and had showed signs of life in the 4th quarter when the Celtics needed it and Jason Terry hit some key 3 pointers and free throws. The Celtics are confusing because, they win games but get out rebounded which is crazy to me but we take what is given and make the best of it.

The night belonged to Jeff Green and his (34) points and his emergence as a jump shooter and that star player that we have longed for since day one. Now Celtics fans understand why we got him for Perkins and now its paying off as Green has blossomed ever since the Rondo injury. Jeff has stepped up and brought the toughness that has been lacking and while KG has been out he has turned into the player that Doc envisioned and ever since his career high outburst against Miami fans have jumped on the bandwagon that I have already been on. Jeff Green’s jumper seemed to be unstoppable in the 4th quarter and all his pregame and practice has paid off because, his stroke from the field tonight willed the Celtics tonight to victory.

The Celtics play the Cleveland Cavaliers on friday and it should be a good one as Kyrie Irving has come back from his shoulder injury and he always puts on a show when he is in the TD Garden. The Celtics should be in a good position to win as long as players step up like they did with the win in the Pistons game tonight. The Celtics shouldn’t take the Cavs lightly and also Washington as they come into town on Sunday.
