OAKLAND, CA (BASN)—As we enter into the second round of the Stanley Cup Finals and the NBA Championship there is a mean-ness in the air.

Some fans and sports writers cannot resist the temptation to denigrate Black athletes when the opportunity arrives lead by the four letter word network in Bristol, Conn.

The N….. word has become very popular and not by young African Americans either who call each other this despicable name every day.

I will never be your N…a. nor you’re DOG.

These young males do not know the history or the origin of which this word comes from. Reverse the letters in dog and what does that spell? Think my brothers and sisters, think before you speak.

The N word popped up two weeks ago as Goal Brother Joel Ward of the Washington Capitals scored the winning goal in overtime against the Boston Bruins. It was not enough; the N-Word filled the internet airwaves in both cities. Remember, the Capitals won the game.

Joel Ward is a veteran skilled hockey player who should be respected for his skating and scoring skills on the ice. It did not matter to Boston or Washington fans. Because all they could see was color.

If the Capitals owner Ted Leonis had not had a press conference the next day the incident would have blown over. People would have gone their merry way unaware and not caring about Joel Ward’s mental state. This event should have been the greatest moment of the year for Ward, his family, and his friends. Instead Ward had to deal with racial bigotry and ignorance.

The silence is deafening Fox Sports Network, ESPN, and the NHL Commissioner Office has not said a word. This was an opportunity to not only educate the fans on the history of Black hockey stars but to also point out that this kind of behavior is acceptable in the NHL. This was not the first incident and with the current lack of action from the authorities, it will not be the last.

It has been three weeks and NOTHING, absolutely nothing from Gary Bettmen the Commissioner of the National Hockey League.

In the second round, Joel Ward became the focal point of anger by Washington Capitals fans. They blamed Ward for the overtime loss last weekend in New York City. He committed a double minor penalty high sticking which drew blood, an automatic four minute penalty with 21.6 sec left in the contest. The New York Rangers tied the game with 6.6. Seconds left and then won the game in 1 minute of overtime. The Boo Birds came out in full force.

Most intelligent hockey fans know that this happens from time to time. Players lose control of their sticks when they are being twisted or turned around by an opposing player. The NHL rule is all players must have control of their hockey stick at all times. This is what happened to Joel Ward but the fans did not care. All they could see was a Black player causing the loss of the game.

The N-Word was used by a reporter who does not like the Black ownership Jay-Z of the New Jersey Nets soon to be the Brooklyn Nets. This reporter wrote the following article

Sportswriter Gives New Name To Team Owned By Jay-Z, ” New York Niggas:.

A New York sportswriter is in hot water after writing that the Brooklyn Nets should change their name to the “New York N——s” because they are co-owned by Jay-Z.

Phil Mushnick, who writes for the New York Post, has apparently been a long-time critic of the rapper’s role in the franchise. In a Friday column, he trashed Jay-Z’s choice for the team’s new uniforms:

As long as the Nets are allowing Jay-Z to call their marketing shots — what a shock that he chose black and white as the new team colors to stress, as the Nets explained, their new “urban” home — why not have him apply the full Jay-Z treatment?

Why the Brooklyn Nets when they can be the New York N——s? The cheerleaders could be the Brooklyn B—-hes or Hoes. Team logo? A 9 mm with hollow-tip shell casings strewn beneath. Wanna be Jay-Z hip? Then go all the way!

Black Athlete Sports Network-BASN, THE COVE CARAVAN- The Gray Leopard Cove, The Soul Tree Patrol- SOUL TREE RADIO IN THE RAW, PAD NATION-The Batchelor Pad, and WCLM- are requesting you to call the New York Post and tell them that this article is unacceptable and the New York Post and Mr. Mushnick should offer a public apology to Jay Z, the ownership of the New Jersey Nets, their fans, and their cheerleaders.

That means EVERYBODY!!!

That means EVERYBODY!!!

Call their New York City offices at 212-930-8000 then 8 and request the sports editor.

It is time for serious racial dialog in the United States. If America with President Obama in the White House will not have a discussion it will never happen.

America is in serious trouble when a candidate running for president can call the sitting President the N-word and not one eyebrow was raised, not a single news service saw fit to report on the incident.

RESPECT-noun-1)relation to something of high regard 2) high esteem 3) an expression of respect or deference
