Big East Football

CONNECTICUT, (BASN)—Ok the polls are in and as usual the final standings will bear little resemblance to what the scribes had to say.

West Virginia is a nearly unanamous pick to win it all. Why?Because they are West Virginia and West Virginia usually wins the Big East.Except last year they finished behind a mediocre UConn team. More about them later. The Mountaineers must find a way to replace Noel Devin and his 4000 yards rushing. They also bring in an unproven head coach in Dana Holgorsen. We don’t see them playing in a BCS Bowl.Look for South Florida or Pittsburgh to garner that honor.

UConn, uncharacteristically is overrated. They have no quarterback. New head coach Paul Pasqualoni doesn’t even have an idea who will be starting.Got a better source? There is also no feature back with the graduation of Jordan Todman. USC transfer D.J. Shoemate will get a shot but he is unproven.
Rutgers is picked last. They probably have the third best talent in Conference, but ended 2010 with six straight losses. Hence the ranking.Chas Dodd is a proven quarterback.Mohamed Sanu,a potential NFL first rounder at wide receiver may be the best athlete in Conference.Savon Huggins may make Scarlet fans forget Ray Rice.Jeremy Deering is also a stud at running back and Scott Vallone should anchor a thin but talented defense.Coach Greg Schiano, with the longest tenure in the Big East at eleven years has improved his coaching staff. Look for the Scarlet Knights to surprise and end up in the Pinstripe Bowl, close to home.
Syracuse should occupy the spot predicted for Rutgers.
