The 6-foot-10 Anderson is one of the tallest members of the Gray family and one of the best basketball players. He is currently undergoing chemotherapy for leukemia at John Hopkins Hospital .

This year, he was slated to be a redshirt freshmen, coming off the Bears bench to help Morgan State return to the NCAA Tournament for the third straight year.

Anthony enrolled to play with my friend head basketball coach Todd Bozeman of the Morgan State University Bears.

Just like everybody else with this disease, Anthony has good and bad days in the hospital undergoing treatment. Mr. Anderson is a very special person because he is part of my family.

The Gray family is hoping for a positive and healthy ending. The family hopes that he will recover and play for the Morgan State Bears in the near future.

The family wants to keep many of the details of Anthony's struggles private but this story of friendship, leadership, and gamesmanship and a caring head coach must be told. 

Like my cousin Anthony, Coach Bozeman has come a long way. I met him in the Middle 80’s when he guided the University of Cal Bears to national prominence and the NCAA Sweet 16.

The Golden Bears almost played the powerful Duke Blue Devils one year but both teams lost their tournament game.

The University administration told Bozeman to win no-matter what and that’s what Coach did. The Golden Bears had winning records all through that decade.

Cal would later pay the price with NCAA sanctions for illegal recruiting and Bozeman paid with his job.

While coaching the Golden Bears, Bozeman helped Jason Kidd and Shareef Abdur-Rahim become NBA stars. 

The Gray family is hoping the same thing will happen to Anthony Anderson. Little Anthony is nicknamed “Big Ant”, and the team has rallied around my cousin under the leadership of Junior’s Rodney Stokes and Reggie Holmes.

Coach Bozeman has shown his talent for guiding young men again in Maryland rebuilding the Morgan State basketball program.

The Bears are seeking their third straight MEAC championship. They've played a tough non-conference schedule (Arkansas, Louisville, Minnesota and Baylor).

In fact, the Bears defeated the Razorbacks 97-94 in Fayetteville back in November. The victory should help Morgan State be a force to content with in March Madness.
