Jim Calhoun, one of the top three coaches in men's
basketball today did not coach against the Hall, serving the third of a three
game NCAA suspension.
He did coach against Rutgers and his team looked out of synch. They had twenty turnovers in the game, many of which were self created.

UConn clearly suffers from the loss of Kemba Walker. He was not only the best player on the team last year, but was also the vocal leader.
This year's team, at least in January according to Calhoun has no leader.
Calhoun had hope that either Alex Oriakhi or Jeremy Lamb would be the leader. Oriakhi has disappointed Calhoun thus far and only played fifteen minutes against Rutgers. Lamb is not a vocal player and this year has been taking far too many jump shots and not penetrating.
One fact must be remembered. UConn went 9-9 in the Big East last season and then went on a tear, winning the Big East Tournament and the NCAA Tournament. This year the Huskies are 12-3 and 2-2 in the Big East and until Saturday a Top Ten team.
Sophomore Shabazz Napier appears to be on the verge of becoming a leader. He had 23 points in 38 minutes against Rutgers and is a player who Calhoun trusts with the ball.
UConn is still one of 8 teams or so who can win a National Championship. They have the pure shooting from Lamb and the inside presence of Andre Drummond and Oriakhi along with a deep bench.
We say that Calhoun will have this team ready by March for a deep run into the NCAA Tournament. That is his style and he does have three rings to show for it.
