The event which will be held at the Makka Surfing Beach at the Yallahs community of Southaven in Saint Thomas this weekend (July 18-20) will attract over 30 surfers and more than 7000 spectators last year is expected to be even bigger this year. The Makka Pro is the third stop on the Caribbean Surf Network’s 4 event regional series. The series sees competition in Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica and Barbados. Ticah Wilmot finished third last year at Makka and will be looking to claim the event as his this time around. They will both have their work cut out for them though as challenges will come from a strong Bajan contingent including last year's fourth place finisher Adrian Small and top Barbados Pro surfer Mark Holder. The USA will also be represented with Dane Jefferys and Scott Clelland from Florida having already arrived on the island. Alexis Gordon of Barbados who will be looking to retain the title she nabbed last year in the women’s division. She will be up against local girls Danielle O’Hayon, who now lies in overall second in the series, and Imani Wilmot who finished third at Makka last year who will have their own thoughts on the final outcome. Competition will also be held in the Men’s Junior division this year and will offer a chance for top local under-18 surfers to match skills with the top junior surfers from around the region with local stand outs Shane Simmonds and Ackeam Phillips expected to do well. The event is endorsed by the Jamaica Surfing Association, Caribbean Surf Network, Sports Development Foundation, Xtreme Sports, Quashi Surfboards, Insight, Suzuki, Jamnesia and the South Haven Citizens Association, with Event Power provided by- Generator Specialists
