The final event of the three event series
was held at the world famous Soup Bowl surfing beach at Bathsheba in
Barbados and was co-hosted by the Caribbean Surf Network in association
with the Barbados Surfing Association.
It ran over three days and saw
competition in Pro Men, Pro Women, Pro Juniors and Pro Body Board divisions.
The event was blessed with good surf
and top class surfing at the right hand reef/point that saw 31
Pro Men and 15 Pro Junior surfers registering to compete from the
USA, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Puerto Rico and Jamaica.
Jamaica had a strong contingent which
consisted of open men Luke Williams, Icah and Inilek Wilmot and junior
men Shane Simmonds, Ackeam Phillips, Eneson Lightbourn, Jason Pusey
and Michael Panton who all surfed in the open men division as well.
Shane Simmonds who finished second at
Soup bowl event was declared the 2009 Suzuki Caribbean Junior Pro Champion.
His teammate Ackeam Phillips who also made the junior final in Barbados
took series second with fellow team mate Eneson Lightbourn taking third.
Jamaicans Icah Wilmot, Luke Williams Ackeam Phillips and Inilek Wilmot all finished in the top ten in the Caribbean and in so doing declared that Jamaica is a force to be reckoned with in Caribbean Surfing.
