JAMAICA -- In keeping with its National Development Plan to have surfing available as a sport of choice to all Jamaicans, the Jamaica Surfing Association (JSA) is endorsing the Jamnesia Surf Club’s initiative to offer a Summer Learn to Surf Camp program for Children between the ages of 7 and 15.
State of the art training boards will be used by JSA’s International Surfing Association (ISA) certified coaches to conduct the summer camp. The camp which will have a limit of ten participants per week will run from July through August.
The camp’s activities will include learning and honing of surfing skills, the history and theory behind international and Jamaican surfing, the rules of competitive surfing, basic water safety skills and knowledge, good ambassadorship skills, environmental awareness and the surfer’s role in protecting the environment.
In order to fully complete these categories of knowledge, the campers will be immersed in the surfing culture for one week camps where they will take part in surfaris, surf competitions, workshops and lectures, and art and craft sessions.
The JSA believes that surfing is a healthy lifestyle alternative for young Jamaicans and encourages interested persons to get involved by contacting the Jamnesia Surf Camp at 976-750-0103 or jamnesiasurf@yahoo.com for further information.
