Contestants entered their respective heats with two four-man heats running simultaneously. Men & women's longboard and shortboard contestants from ages 13 and up braced the El Porto line-up in the early morning hours.
The conditions were fair with plenty of waves for longboarding entries. The shortboard entrants were served with small inconsistent waves but enough of a wave for contestants to have fun.
Inkwell Surf's Chris Dennis settled into his heat with surfing on his mind. Chris, fresh off his first four-star WQS event at Trestles took charge in his first heat with 3 solid waves. Chris was unstoppable winning first in all heats.
The crowd on the beach went wild with each ride as Chris charged on to the finals. His last wave sealed his fate with a combination of solid turns. He was destined for first place.
The judges made final decisions and an award ceremony followed the contest at a local restaurant. Dennis won first place in the Men's Open 2007 Surfrider Foundation Earth Day Surf Contest.
