The event was only open to media, with a scattering of Open workers on hand and some musician practicing for the televised rehersal of the canceled Arthur Ashe day events for Saturday.
Some of Federer's team entered the Stadium at 1:00 and hit around before Federer entered at 1:08,wearing the new red Roger That! tee,on sale as of Friday at the Open.He is taller and thinner than he appears on television.He did a lot of running in place and stretching before taking the court.He hit with two of his hitting partners under the watchful eye of coach Paul Annacone.
Federer listened intently to the advice from Annacone,especially about court placement. Despite this,it was clear that Federer was in charge of his team and his workout.
Federer practiced every element of his game until 2:00,taking only one break.He then was kind enough to sign autographs for some individuals situated in the doorway area to the entrance to the court.
The 30 year old has a tough draw and must get through no. 1 Novak Djokovic if he wants to make it to another final.
After the workout a number of media in the media workroom had a friendly debate about who would win more majors going forward,Federer or Tiger Woods.The consensus was Federer,with the expectation that he would either win this year's Open or Wimbledon next year.Most of the media felt that Woods would not win another major.
