Baseball's future in the Olympic Games will be on the line Thursday when the International Olympic Committee meets to decide which two sports will be forwarded for final consideration in 2016.

After having been part of Olympic lineups since 1992, baseball was excluded from the slate for the 2012 Games in London. It is seeking reinstatement for the 2016 Olympics, which will be held in Chicago, Madrid, Rio de Janeiro or Tokyo.

David Payne, under the tutelage of Hampton University women's track & field coach Maurice Pierce, finished second in the 110-meter hurdle finals for the silver medal. He finished with a time of 13.17, .01 seconds ahead of Howard's David Oliver, (13.18) who took the bronze.

Team USA needs an opponent to remind it that nothing’s supposed to be as easy as Anne Donovan’s team has made it look. The Russian Federation, which two years ago stunned the USA by winning in the semifinals of the world championships, figures to be game for the task.

In 2004, Keeth Smart was on the strip at the end of back-to-back 45-44 losses. A win in either would have given his team a medal, but instead the Americans finished fourth. This year, Smart scored the deciding point in two 45-44 wins, and his U.S. saber team took the silver.
