Leading the way for the men’s team is
Najee Lane of Clark Atlanta. Lane, who was also named conference most
valuable
player, led the Panthers to a 22-5, 19-5 in conference play, and the
SIAC
regular season title.
The 6-foot-4 senior from Trenton, N.J. led Clark-Atlanta
in both scoring and rebounds averaging 13.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per
contest.
Joining Lane on the All-Conference first team were Stillman
guard
Lajay Sears, Tuskegee forward/center Andre Nelson,and guards Eric Salley
and
LeDarius Johnson of Claflin and LeMoyne-Owen respectively.
The
women’s first team is led by Takesha Riggs of Fort Valley State. Riggs,
who was named the women’s most valuable player, averaged 15.5 points
while leading the Lady Wildcats to a 26-1 record, 21-1 in conference
play.
The
5-foot-7 senior from Homestead, FL makes her second all-conference team in as
many seasons. Also on the first team is Lane forward Veronica Jackson,
guard
Ashley Sorrell-Gibson of Claflin, along with guards Shonice Sprouse of
LeMoyne-Owen and Tequila Martin of Tuskegee.
The
men’s freshman of the year is James Edmonds of Lane. Women’s
freshman of the year is Stephanie Harper of Kentucky State.
The
Men's Coach of the Year is on the Clark Atlanta’s Darryl Jacobs. Jacobs
led the Panthers their third consecutive winning season and a No. 20 national ranking.
The
Women's Coach of the Year is Fort Valley State head coach Lonnie Bartley
after leading his team to a No. 1 South Regional ranking and No. 7 national
ranking.
