NEW YORK -- In a weekend where several black college football teams either struggled and or lost, this week's BoxToRow.com/BASN HBCU Top 10 Football poll has seen some major movement.
The top spot is still being held by the undefeated Golden Tigers of Tuskegee (4-0). Willie Slater's squad was tested this weekend, however a late touchdown run by Jacary Atkinson gave them 20-16 win at Fort Valley State.
TU received 12 of 13 first-place votes with number three Hampton (3-1) getting the other No. 1 vote. The Panthers of Prairie View A&M (4-0) are ranked second in the poll. Tennessee State (4-1), who dropped from second to fourth, and South Carolina State (3-2) make up the rest of the top five.
The Bulldogs, who rose from eighth to fifth, are coming off a convincing 43-17 road win against Winston-Salem State. The Tigers suffered their first loss of the season Saturday when they fell to Florida A&M 28-21 in the Atlanta Football Classic.
The Rattlers (3-1) made the biggest jump of the week going from 10th to sixth in this week's poll. The win against TSU, which was the 200th victory in head coach Joe Taylor's career, sets up an MEAC showdown in Tallahassee Saturday against South Carolina State.
The rest of the top 10 includes West Virginia State (4-0) remaining at number seven, Grambling State (3-2) moving up from ninth to eighth, Delaware State (1-2) drops from sixth to ninth, and Albany State (3-1) fell from fifth to 10th.
The Golden Rams were upset 13-10 over the weekend by Benedict College.
Key games set for this upcoming weekend include Tuskegee vs. Alabama A&M in the Circle City Classic at Indianapolis; Prairie View A&M vs. Grambling State in the State Fair Classic at Dallas; Hampton at Delaware State; and Stillman College at Albany State.
