Inside The Huddle: NFL Week One

HOUSTON -- The Houston Texans are getting ready to start the 2008 National Football League regular season as they prepare to travel to Pittsburgh to face the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.

The defense remains a question after a dismal preseason performance; however, look for Pro Bowl linebacker DeMeco Ryans, defensive end Mario Williams, and Morlon Greenwood to get the unit pumped up and ready to go against the Steelers.

The Texans made 21 cuts over the weekend to reach the 53-player roster. They also placed former Tennessee Titans running back Chris Brown on the injured reserve. 

Brown has been injured during most of the preseason.

Here is a look at some important Houston Texan dates to mark on your calendar:

-- Tuesday: Pancakes & Pigskins Rookie Breakfast, 7:30 a.m.-9 a.m. @ the Verizon Wireless West Club at Reliant Stadium.

-- Sunday, September 14: Ravens at Texans (home opener)

-- Tuesday, September 16: Take a Texan to School Day

-- Tuesday, September 23: Texans Community Player of the Month (Local Whataburger location).

NOTES

Houston Texans owner Bob McNair has sold Stonerside Stable, which he founded with wife Janice in 1994. The move came because McNair wanted to concentrate more on his NFL team when it comes to sports ventures.

Included in the transaction will be 80 horses in training plus another 170 or so broodmares yearlings and weanlings, as well as the main 2,000-acre farm near Paris, Kentucky.

The McNairs will keep one horse in training, 3-year old graded stakes winner Cowboy Cal. "An important aspect of the deal to us is that the Stonerside staff, who have worked so hard for the family and contributed so much to our success, have been assured that their futures are secure.", McNair stated.
