HOUSTON -- The Derrick Johnson Foundation hosted their second annual "Men of Distinction" Celebrity Weekend Kickoff Reception at the Momentum Auditorium at the Showroom in Houston

This event is held in conjunction with the annual celebrity weekend and gala. The Derrick Johnson Foundation Gala will be held on Thursday, June 28, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. at the Hobby Center.

Mr. Joseph D. Jamail Jr. has been chosen as this year's "Men of Distinction" recipient. Jamail will be awarded the 2007 Community Honoree Award given by the Foundation.

"I look up to Mr. Jamail. We're very close," Johnson stated. "When I was at the
University of Texas , he always took time to talk to me and told me that there was something very special about me."

"To be able to honor him with this award speaks for itself!"

Johnson, a linebacker for the Kansas City Chiefs who grew up in
Waco, Texas , resides in Houston  during the offseason. Houston  has become a home away from home for him.

"Being in
Houston  and having my foundation events here gives me the best of both worlds," Johnson said. "We have a large Longhorn alumni base in Houston  and a lot of supporters."

Many of Johnson's former Longhorn teammates and NFL stars will be in attendance for the gala including:
Tennessee Titans  quarterback Vince Young, Titans tight end Bo Scaife,   Chicago Bears  Tommie Harris, Selvin Young, Charles Tillman, and Charlie Ward among others.

The Celebrity Weekend will climax on Saturday, June 30th with a elebrity  Bowling Tournament at Jillians at 6:00 p.m.  The event is open to the public and all proceeds will benefit the Derrick Johnson Foundation.
