The luncheon, presented by Frenchy's Chicken, A-Rocket Moving and Storage, and Dixie Hardware Electrical and Plumbing is the event prior to the annual Labor Day Classic Football game.
First year TSU head coach Johnnie Cole and Prairie View head coach Henry Frazier III will talk about their respective teams. They will be introduced by new TSU athletic director Charles McClelland and acting Prairie View athletic director Fred Washington.
In 2007, the Panthers (7-3) captured their first winning season since 1976 and most wins since 1964. Frazier was selected as Coach of the Year by the College Sporting News and the Black Sports Page.
Cole, a former Tiger quarterback and assistant coach, comes to TSU following a winless 2007 season. After turning around Lane College, he replaces Steve Wilson, who was fired Nov. 8 with two games remaining.
Wilson compiled a 4-38 record in parts of three seasons. Guest speaker for the luncheon will be former Houston Oilers/Tennessee Titans/Baltimore Ravens quarterback Steve "Air" McNair.
The Annual Labor Day Classic Football game will take place on Saturday, August 30th at 7 p.m. CT at Reliant Stadium. The Touchdown Club created the Durley-Nicks Trophy, which is presented to the winner of the annual contest on the field immediately after the game.
The game will be shown on ESPNU on a tape-delayed basis at 9:30 pm CT.
