It was the first six-round bout of Mitchell’s career, and he turned in a stellar performance. The win brings Mitchell’s record to 6-0-1, with four KO’s.

“Tonight we saw a very fundamentally sound performance from Seth Mitchell. We saw a lot of things he had not been doing early on in his career,” said boxing commentator Gary “Digital Williams, a writer for fight news.com and the author of the boxing Web site boxing along the beltway.

Mitchell made his pro debut against Miller in January, and defeated him in a four-round unanimous decision. “He did not allow Mike Miller to tie him up in the corner," Williams added.

"He had some outstanding corner work in the fight. Miller has not been [knocked] down since 2004, so you look at a guy who is really a survivor in the ring and knows a lot of the tricks of the trade."

"You can definitely see the growth between the two fights that Mitchell had against Miller. He did a lot of things that he just did not know how to do in the first fight. He’s learned a lot in the gym, and it was a good performance for him.”

A 6-foot-2 heavyweight from Brandywine Maryland, Mitchell has become a crowd favorite in Washington-Baltimore circles, and is beginning to develop name recognition as well on the West Coast, having fought in California.

“Truthfully, I was impressed, and it’s hard to impress me,” said renown ring announcer Henry “Discombobulating” Jones of Mitchell’s performance against Miller.

“As I recall, I announced his pro debut against this same guy, and he has certainly made some remarkable strides. He’s more patient now. Seth wanted to come out of the gate knocking everybody out, and you can’t knock everybody out. Against a guy like this, it’s a good litmus test of how much his skills have grown.”

During his amateur career, Mitchell compiled a record of 9-1, with all victories coming by way of knockout. His only loss was to the number two ranked amateur in the country at the time, Abodurin Akinyanju.

Mitchell entered the ring poised and confident that he was ready to face the challenge of his first six-round contest. “I felt pretty good tonight", said Mitchell.

"My stamina was good. I've learned how to pace myself. It was my first time out going six rounds against a worthy opponent, and I have much respect for him. I just kept plugging away at the things we've been working on in the gym and I'm happy with my performance.”

Mitchell’s next fight is Friday, Oct. 24 at the Morongo Casino resort and Spa in Cabazon, Calif. Following that bout, Mitchell will return home to fight at the Show Place Arena in Upper Marlboro, Maryland on November 7.
