Box and One With Cecil Brown

SEATTLE (BASN) -- While most of you were still in the bed sleeping and others were being awakened to the sounds and aromas coming from the kitchen on Thanksgiving Day morning, Cecil Brown of the NBA D-League Tulsa 66ers was busy at work getting prepared for the season opener against the Utah Flash.

Cecil already has a treasure chest of Thanksgiving Day memories and the one that sticks out the most happened three years ago. “It was one the most incredible days of my life,” Brown commented.

“My grandmother flew in from Louisiana without telling anyone that she was coming and cooked the entire Thanksgiving dinner for our entire family. I ate some much that I couldn’t move,” said Cecil.

This Tulsa 66er employee has basketball on his mind right now and all the support imaginable from the family. “Basketball is serious business and I’m so happy to be a part of this organization", said Brown .

"Our coaches have done everything to make us successful and the tutoring that they’ve provided is priceless. Everywhere you look around you can see the excitement of opening day."

"There are posters, radio and TV spots about the Tulsa 66ers. I can’t wait to get on the floor in front of our fans for the first time,” added Brown . The 6-foot-4 guard out of UC Santa Barbara was playing ball in France this time last year and happy to be back in familiar surroundings.

“There’s no place like home and the competition here far exceeds anything that I experienced overseas," stated Cecil. "The c oaching staff spends a lot of time developing and making us better players.”

Cecil can play either guard positions but his strengths are that he’s a relentless defender, handles the ball aggressively and can get into the paint whenever he wants.

For any opponent that appears to be an offensive threat to the Tulsa 66ers, they can expect to meet Brown up close and personal.

“Defense is something that I take great pride in and work very hard at it,” stated Brown. “While in college, Coach Williams was big on simplicity. He simplified my game and made me slow down."

" I was a live wire and would go out and try to do too much”. When Cecil puts on jersey No. 11 his only goal of the season is to make the team better, advance to the playoffs and bring back a Championship Trophy to Tulsa .

“It’s all about the team concept and progressing together as a unit", said Brown.

"It would be nice to be called up but that isn’t the objective and that type of mindset will hurt our team. Winning will address all of those concerns”.
