Rounding out the top five in voting for this season's award were: Kobe Bryant, L.A. Lakers (698 points), Dwayne Wade, Miami Heat (680 points), Dwight Howard, Orlando Magic (328 points) and Chris Paul, New Orleans Hornets (12 points).
He is the first Cleveland Cavalier to win the award and he's only 24. He grew up in Ohio and continues to add to his memoir every year. The news of James winning the award was very touching to him.
He took time on his way home to go back and reflect by driving by St. Vincent-St. Mary High School, his alma mater, went past his first house on Hickory Street, than he passed by the house on Silver Street where his mother began raising him by herself.
James retraced the steps of his path to NBA stardom. "I'm 24 years old and I'm receiving this award. I never thought it would happen this fast," LeBron stated.
"I never dreamed about being MVP, but if I said I didn't enjoy this award I'd be lying." James received the award in the gym where he first became a star.
He accepted it as he stood underneath three state title banners he helped win for the Fighting Irish. "This is the place where all my dreams started and where I thought they could become real," James said.
"There's really not a better place."
King James averaged 28.4 points, 7.6 rebounds and 7.2 assists in this his sixth season. He also finished second in voting for defensive player of the year.
