WATTS
THE STORY

IS JC WATTS ON JOHN MC CAIN'S
 VICE PRESIDENT SHORT LIST

HE SHOULD BE

JC Watts

IN ACTION FOR OKLAHOMA

What an interesting choice

for McCain to make to

Energize his Campaign

JC Watts of Oklahoma

Talk about shaking things up on the Republican side. Somewhat  conservative God fearing 50 year old very youthful looking former  Congressman JC Watts. Even more here is the Box Black QUARTERBACK JC  Watts of University of Oklahoma fame. A starring African American  Quarterback still back in the days when it was far far more infrequent.

The question is would it do any good for the Republicans beyond the  immediate adrenaline boost. Then again is their any VP choice who will  do McCain much good ? So why not JC Watts. The fact is he will do him  some real good. McCain does not have a 50 state strategy like Obama.  The  Republicans have to be more realistic but imaginative. Simply WIN the  election.

That means getting the most Electoral Votes by one will do. Watts will  energize the Republicats who will like the idea they too can run a  Black candidate and feel good while taking some of his thunder away  from Obama. Then there are the Swing States. Here again JC Watts is a  good thing. Allowing the so called Independents who "control" these  States to  feel good voting for an African American but being able to  vote Republican while doing it.

AND DON'T FORGET THIS. The only way the Republicans can attack Obama  the way they would like is for another AFRICAN American to do the  attacking. And the ONLY African American who can really do that  effectively has to be a Black candidate who is running on the same  Ticket with McCain. Otherwise any other Black Republican critic of  Obama will simply be ignored if not ridiculed speaking for the Party  unfriendly to African Americans.

In Truth ex-Congressman JC Watts is not sitting around praying for the  unexpected. More realistically he has an active and growing business.  JC Watts Companies is involved in all kinds of businesses call it a  mini-conglomerate. See for yourself at JCWatts.com. Even more Watts is  currently in the NEWS making  NEWS. Really making NEWS with his new venture launching very soon.  Announcing The Black  Television New Channel. Coming your Way.

Rather than talking for Watts about IT

HERE IS JC WATTS talking about

BTNC in his own words in a new

interview at Politico.com

Q: Why a  news channel?

A: I guess probably in my time in  politics, it  continued to be affirmed to me that the African-American community,  despite being subscription television's most valuable customers, they  are very underserved by cable and satellite television programming  options. The African-American community is, I think, news-starved and  underserved. You've got about 70 successful Hispanic channels. We think  we are meeting a need.

Q: What type of programming will the BTNC have?

A: We'll provide about 16 hours of  original news  coverage, nonpartisan commentary, information, educational programs  that I think represent a diverse African-American viewpoint. When you  look at cable, you see African-American faces, but you don't see  African-American news.

Q: Did Barack Obama's presidential run prompt  your decision to deliver news directly to black audiences?

A: I think there's more news than —  obviously,  Barack Obama is news. Red, yellow, brown, black or white, what he is  doing is news. Now, if he becomes president, then that surely would  provide a lot of content, but I think news is more than presidential  elections or the war in Iraq.

Q: So then how would the channel handle today's  news differently than CNN does?

A: Obviously there's Katrina, there's  Rev.  [Jeremiah] Wright, but I think with Rev. Wright, there was a  perspective never told even in that. It would have been easy to listen  to the news coverage on Rev. Wright and say that all African-American  churches are like that. It's a different culture. When you get things  like that in politics, it's often difficult to make sense out of them,  but I do think there was a perspective there [that] was overlooked.

Q: What else is African-American news?

A: I think the Tuskegee experiment.  That's  something that we hear a lot about, but you never have any news  organizations peel the onion. There's a lot of things out there in  terms of investigative reporting that can be health-related,  education-related, economically related. But the fact is the  African-American community, by and large, has been left out of the  dialogue.

Q: What would your role be at the organization?

A: I think the mission for us — BTNC  — is to create  a venue that the African-American community, or anybody for that part,  that they can come to a certain venue and get reliable, credible  information and resources. It hasn't been determined yet what my role  would be, other than I know I will be involved in making sure that we  stay true to that mission, to that cause. You wont see me trying to  manage a news channel.

Q: What aspects of your past life as  a politician have helped prepare you for this next phase?

A: Most of the last 15 years, I've been on the  newsmaker's side. As an analyst [and] as a newsmaker, I know the  questions. I think I can probably help to get beyond the spin, if you  will. I've often had producers call me and say, “Hey, if you were doing  this interview, what would you ask?” I've got a pretty good baptism in  most of it.

Q: What's the biggest difference between the  House of  Representatives, where you served as leader of the House Republican  Conference, and the news business?

A: I think in politics, in Congress, you often  do  things that are Republican, or you do things because you're a Democrat.  Sometimes that's good, obviously, and sometimes that's obviously bad.  But in the news business, there's no such thing as Republican or  Democratic news. News is news.

Q: Some members of the African-American  community have  tired of the major cable networks using the same black analysts over  and over again, such as the Rev. Jesse Jackson and the Rev. Al  Sharpton. How will the BTNC be different?

A: I hope that Republicans and Democrats and  people  from all stripes would be open to contributing and speaking to the  African-American community. I do think, however, that there's a very  diverse point of view in the African-American community. There's a lot  of different voices that need to be heard. I don't claim and pretend to  know the thoughts and opinions and ideas of all African-Americans.

Q: You said once that Republicans reach out to  black  voters only “60 days before an election.” Is this channel an attempt to  remedy that?

A: I think that's the problem with the  Republican  Party: They don't take advantage of these venues enough. I would hope  that both parties and people of all stripes would say, “Hey, here's a  resource and an asset.” I don't think we want [to be] a venue for  Republicans. Republicans have venues today, and they don't use them.
