Too BAD players don't

choose NFL head coaches

what a difference it  would be

YES Sports Fans in a  survey of NFL players done last season commissioned by the Players  Association and recently released to the public the players themselves  overwhelming chose African American coaches the best Coaches to play  for the only White Guy on the List of Best is Bill Belichick because of  his formerly winning ways.

This was not done as  some small sampling of players. No sir. About  80% of the NFL players  responded to the survey 1440 players. For an exhaustive article about  the study turn to Bill Rhoden's article in The New York Times apparently the ONLY journalist to give it any significant attention.  LINK at the bottom of today's Box.

Since Rhoden goes into  the Nitty Gritty we won't bother. It would take us away from our heavy  schedule campaigning for Barack Obama and against John McCain. Here we  will  note what Bill Rhoden does not. The SIGNIFICANCE of the results.

IT IS A POLITICAL  STATEMENT BY BLACK PLAYERS. That fact goes right over Bill Rhoden's  head or his editors removed any such references. Both plausible.

It is debatable whether  or not Dungy, Smith, Edwards and Tomlin are the best coaches in the  NFL. For sure most of the teams with the very worst records in the NFL  year after year after year have WHITE coaches. An easy deduction since  26 or more of the 32 NFL head coaches are NOT African American year  after year.

The point of the results  is clearly about something else Rhoden. With over 65% of the NFL  players African American GUESS WHAT many of the players went down the  list of 32 coaches last year and chose the AFRICAN American coaches to  make a statement.

And that is the most  significant collective action African American NFL players have ever  made. Be it anonymously in a secret survey NOT run by the NFL. Chances  are IF the NFL had conducted the survey the results would have been  very different. The African American players would have FEARED  Commissioner GOOdell and the 32 WHITE owners finding out who voted for  who and RETALIATING  against them.

Here is the even more  profound Point that goes way over Bill Rhoden's head. This survey is  clear PROOF that if we had African American owners in the NFL and if we  had a FAIR number of  NFL team executives making decisions and likewise  FAR more African Americans working at NFL headquarters from the  Commissioner on down there would be FAR MORE BLACK COACHES IN THE NFL.  Far more. WHY.

Because the players  ability to identify with their NFL head coach would be a factor in  coaching decisions rather than teams having to run out of White  candidates before they consider an African American. Plus FINALLY the  NFL would admit to itself the NFL has always been filled with many  TERRIBLE White head coaches. That 99%+ of NFL teams throughout history  with losing records have had WHITE coaches.
