What a touching scene how can you possibly criticize Omar Minaya for being one of those promoting Baseball EVERYWHERE Except in the Inner Cities. That is how
we can criticize him and others strongly. Because the real
point is WHY would he and others travel the world everywhere
the Dominican Republic of course and China, YES China and Ghana, Israel
but not back at home specifically among African
Americans. This week Omar is in Israel developing interest in playing more Baseball among Israeli youth. Who can criticize that. Nobody not us EXCEPT that he will travel to the far corners of the world as a Baseball "ambassador" offer inspiration AND resources here there and everywhere EXCEPT in America's Inner Cities. Of course no one else
catches the discrepancy a
nicer word than hypocrisy
indeed Even more to the
Point the Mets and the Yankees likewise are building new
Billion Dollar Baseball Pleasure Palaces in New York City NO
expenses spared. This will be Baseball Heaven for those still
living here on Earth. NO need to go to the Promised Land to
experience Baseball at it sensual ( or is it sexual
in those lavish very private corporate suites with luxury
bathrooms surrounding the field )
BEST. But absolutely NO
Baseball Academies along
with either new stadium for Black kids and others to
develop baseball skills
and potential as they do
by the dozen in
the Dominican Republic Allow us to quote The New York
Times on the fabulous Mets
GM Omar Minaya “ We have to find a way to help baseball there ( in Israel ),” he said. “ I've worked on building four or five baseball fields in the Dominican Republic. We have to do something in Israel to bring baseball there and give the kids the opportunity to play baseball. I told Arn we have to get it done.” ( There are NO quotes of Minaya ever saying WE HAVE GOT TO FIND A WAY TO HELP BASEBALL IN AFRICAN AMERICAN COMMUNITIES ) "Minaya did not ignore his day job
while he was in Israel. He had his cell phone with him and
talked with other general managers daily. But just in case he
forgot that he had a job to do, Mets fans were there to
remind him." NO indeed Minaya did
not bring a pitcher home with him but much much closer to
home the New York Mets do NOT have even one African American
pitcher on their staff and beyond pitchers the one notable
really the ONLY African American on the New York Mets last
year Outfielder Lastings Milledge has been traded to the Washington
Nationals in return for some decidedly non-African American
players. So there you have
it globe
hopping Baseball
Ambassador Omar Minaya
one of many traveling the
world spreading the Gospel
of Baseball who has no
trouble finding his Way to
Jerusalem but NEVER Harlem Where to next Omar ??
