US Open: Marching into the final week!
Donald Young once again escape what was certain loss and came roaring back from a two set deficit to win his third match in the US Open as he now enters the sweet 16 and final week of the US Open. Young most recent miracle finish was against 22 seed Victor Troicki. After being white washed 6-0 by Troicki in the second set, Young dug himself out of the grave and won the next three sets, 7-6, 6-2, 6-3. Young improved conditioning has allowed him to stay in these tough matches and now the impossible dream continues.
Madison Keys is the next obstacle to Serena Williams’ dream of a fifth straight Majors. Williams faced a scrappy Bethanie Mattek-Sands Friday and lost the first set before turning the match around including a 6-0 blitz in the final set. Keys has the power to match Williams and has a good US Open so far and if Serena gets pass Keys, then she might face her sister in the quarters.
For John Isner, it is a case of good news and bad news. The good news is that he joins Young into the sweet 16 and the bad news is that he is facing Roger Federer, who has yet to lose a set in the Open. Federer has looked like the smooth Roger at his peak. The American men will have two in the sweet 16 for the first time since 2012
Rafal Nadal says good bye to the US Open as he blew a two set lead and lost to Italian Fabio Fognini in a tough contested Match. Nadal is not the player he has been and part of the problem is recovery from various ailments including appendicitis and a wrist injury.
