OKC Thunder: 2015 NBA Draft Prospects
The Oklahoma City Thunder had an injury filled season and are looking for a speedy recovery for the 2015-2016. The Thunder have been very busy this offseason adding a new coach in Billy Donovan from University of Florida and Monty Williams from the Pelicans. The Thunder are title contenders every year with a healthy Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook on the court. Looking at the Thunder roster they are stacked and honestly don’t need to use their 14th pick on Thursday. The Thunder can easily trade the pick to a team thats in a rebuilding stage like the Timberwolves or the Orlando Magic. There were some rumored trades of a sign and trade with the Magic for Tobias Harris in exchange for the 14th pick and Jeremy Lamb. As stated at the end of the season Lamb said “I just want to play for a team that I can actually play for and get on the floor”.
The Thunder have some choices to make on what they are going to do about the draft. The prospects that I think will fit the Thunder roster are Devin Booker, Sam Dekker, and Tyus Jones. The Thunder need some perimeter players that will help back up Russell Westbrook out this year. Westbrook had an amazing season but he was playing way too many minutes down the stretch because of the lack of depth at guard. With the addition of Booker or Jones the Thunder will have someone they can groom into the player that they need to help carry Westbrook’s load when he hits the bench. Sam Dekker will be a good fit for the Thunder because he can space the floor and hit the 3 point shot that so many Thunder bigs were trying to do. Dekker will be a smart void to put in the game that can do a little bit more than what Steve Novak was giving them and he’s younger.
Devin Booker in my eyes would be the perfect fit if the sharp shooter is available at the 14th pick he reminds me of younger Klay Thompson. Booker plays both ends of the court and his jump shot is pure money from anywhere on the court. I think all 3 of the prospects will flourish under the teaching of Billy Donovan and I think he can teach them how to make defense create their offense. Below are some highlights of the prospects that I believe the Thunder should make a move for if they don’t trade the pick.
DEVIN BOOKER (UNIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY)
SAM DEKKER (UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN)
TYUS JONES (UNIVERSITY OF DUKE)
