What better way to get 2015 off to a great start than by embracing the HBCU Experience?
Highlighting the history, relevance and impact of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Black college alumni Tia C. M. Tyree, Ph.D., (Morgan State University and Howard University) and Christopher D. Cathcart (Howard University) have teamed to co-edit HBCU Experience – The Book, a collection of more than 60 essays showcasing Black college life. While some question the need for Black colleges and universities in today’s educational environment, HBCU Experience – The Book underscores the unique and still vital role of these institutions.
The groundbreaking anthology chronicles undergraduate realities at HBCUs across the nation, from student activism and leadership to mentoring and role models to dating and relationships to the fun and importance of fraternities and sororities, and much more. Maryland Congressman Elijah E. Cummings, a Howard University graduate and advocate of HBCUs, wrote the book’s foreword. The introduction was written by journalist and mobile media professor Allissa Richardson, a graduate of Xavier University and 2013 Apple, Inc. Distinguished Educator.
Order your copy of HBCU Experience – The Book today. It’s available online now at Amazon.com and Barnesandnoble.com or through local bookstore order desks. Tyree and Cathcart will announce plans for a book-signing tour soon and are available for personal appearances to discuss the book and other issues related to HBCUs.
