Last year African American quarterbacks reached for the stars with success. One weekend on the grid-iron ten Black quarterbacks started and garnered a 7-1 record with two injuries and two no decisions in week number seven. That was history but the American Sports media did not notice or report it. The question should be asked why only six quarterbacks of color starting in the National Football League? THE HISTORY CONTINUES

This week’s games

Baltimore vs. Atlanta

Houston vs. Tennessee

Buffalo vs. New York Jets

Minnesota vs. Tampa Bay

Seattle vs. Carolina

The Field General comes through again keeping the Seahawks close until the end of the game. Then Russell Wilson (20-33 with 199 yards and one touchdown and one interception) engineered an 80 drive to win the game with a 27 yard touchdown pass to another Willson, Luke that is. Wilson also ran for four first downs and 35 yards. Hawks are now chasing Arizona Cardinals who defeated the Philadelphia Eagles.

Seattle wins the defensive struggle 13-9.

*2) 3-3 Colin Kaepernick- San Francisco 49ers-BYE WEEK

*3) 2-4-1 Cam Newton- Carolina Panthers-

Cam Newton a tough day trying to fight the Seattle Seahawk defense and his own team too. Many passes were dropped by Panther receiver in the 2nd half that cost Carolina the game. Newton tried to help the Panther offensive drives by running (12 for 24 yards) which created a critical fumble in the 3rd quarter. Cam Newton (12-22 with 171 yards and three sacks) does not have help in his receiving corps and its beginning to show and they are still in the NFC South race. The Panthers also have to learn to take care of the football. too many mistakes on this day with fumbles and interceptions.

Panthers lose 13-9

*4) 2-2 Teddy Bridgewater-Minnesota Vikings-

Minnesota Vikings Rookie Minicamp

With each passing week Teddy Bridgewater (24-42 with 241 yards and one touchdown) improves and could be the quarterback of the future in the NFC North Division. Bridgewater limited his mistakes and kept his team in the game, in fact he guided the team toward the tying field goal. Then the defense took over in overtime by recovering the ball on a fumble for a touchdown.

The Minnesota Vikings win 19-13.

*5) 1-7 Geno Smith- New York Jets-

This team is a mess and it is time to change the starting quarterbacks and the head coach. This team seems like it has quit on head coach Rex Ryan. The New York Jet offense ran around like a fire drill with everybody going in different directions. Gang Green made too many mistakes with four interceptions and two fumbles.

Michael Vick (18-36 with 153 yards) tried to uplift the team with 17 points in the second period but the offense seemed like it’s stuck in the mud.

It was the battle of New York State in the AFC and Geno Smith (2-8 with 5 yards) gets intercepted the first three drives leading to the Buffalo Bills blowout.

The New York Jets lose 43-24.

*6) 2-2 E.J. Manuel-Buffalo Bills- DID NOT PLAY

Kyle Orton did not have to do work this game as the New York Jets gave the Bills an early 43-24 Halloween gift.

*7) 0-1 Robert Griffin III- The Washington Football Club- DID NOT PLAY

The Burgundy and Gold travel to Dallas to play rival Cowboys and Tony Romo

winning in overtime 20-17. Washington wins with third string quarterback Colt McCoy (25-30 with 299 yards and one touchdown) stopping the six game streaking Cowboys.

Did you notice in the ESPN Monday Night broadcast Jon Gruden used the R-word every chance he could while the Brother Michael Tirico did not use the R-Word. The message is being sent.

PLEASE DO NOT USE FEDEX until this company stops supporting Dan Snyder and the Washington Football Club’s team name. The corporate name of FedEx should be removed from the stadium.

TOTAL 11-19-1 WEEK 2-2

Black Head Coaches- 4 6-2 Mr. Caldwell- Detroit Lions-jim

Mr. Caldwell had these cats roaring as they crossed the Atlantic to play in Wembley Stadium. Detroit fell behind early in the first half 21-0 and it got better in the third quarter when the Atlanta Falcons could not score. Matthew Stafford ( 24-47 with 325 yards and two touchdowns with one interception) and the Lions scored 22 points in the second half with a field goal with zeros on the clock. Detroit had a delay of game penalty that pushed them back five more yards. This is all the Silver and Blue needed with their kicking problems. Matt Prater eased their pain by putting the ball through the uprights and a 22-21 victory.

4-2-1 Marvin Lewis – Cincinnati Bengals-

The Halloween Cats pull out a close one with the Baltimore Ravens to return to the AFC North Division. It was Andy Dalton vs. Joe Flacco.  Dalton fumbled in the fourth quarter and it looked like the end for the Cats but on the last play of the game Dalton could see the spread offense and called his own number. With a little help from his Cincinnati friends pushing him into the end zone.

Bengals win 27-24.

3-4-1 Ron Rivera- Carolina Panthers-Latin Head Coach-

Coach Rivera has to find offense if the Cats are going to win NFC South Division. The Panthers do not have receivers and this hurts the team and Cam Newton. Playing against Russell Wilson and the Legion of Dome does not help

Cats lose 13-9.

5-3 Mike Tomlin- Pittsburgh Steelers-

The Steelers might have found what they have been looking for all year long, offense. The Pittsburgh Steelers blow out Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis Colts 51-38. Big Ben Roethlisberger set franchise records with 522 yards passing and six touchdowns while picking up his 100th victory in his 150th start. He just wanted to teach the youngster a lesson as the Steelers get back in the mix in the AFC North.

tampa bay1-6 Lovie Smith- Tampa Bay Buccaneers-

These guys just have buzzard luck as they lose a very tight game Anthony Banks almost won it for the Bucs as he misses interception.

Glennon might have found a new friend Mike Evans who combined for 68 years in fourth quarter.

The Bucs lose in overtime as the ball was striped from wide receiver Jenkins as Viking Rookie Anthony Barr recover and scores ending the game and the season for Tampa Bay with 19-13 loss.

TOTAL 18-17-2 WEEK 3-2

Black General Managers-6 5-3

Baltimore Raven Ozzie Newsome-

The Birds lose a tough one Justin Tucker hit a 53 yard field goal but the Purple and Black defense could not hold Dalton and the Cinn. Bengals. Joe Flacco did all that he could do but win with 17-34 with 195 yards and two interceptions.

Flacco also had a critical fumble that the Cats used to score

Ravens lose 27-24

6-2 Detroit Lion Martin Mayhew-

The Silver and Blue took advantage of the early morning game 9 AM in the East and 6 AM in the west. As Londoners had an afternoon game. The Lions are a pleasant surprise in the NFL this year as Jim Caldwell is teaching Suh and the defensive line basic team defense.

Det. wins with fourth quarter surge 22-21.

4-4 Houston Texan Rick Smith-ricks

The Houston Texans continue their up and down season . This week they win to even their record at four each. J.J. Watt made sure Tennessee Titian rookie quarterback  Mettenberger remembers him. I don’t think he will forget number 99 as he sacked him twice in the first period and ran away from him the rest of the day.  Aaron Foster saves the day with 20 rushes for 151 yards and two touchdowns. Foster also had four receptions for 22 yards and one touchdown

The Texans win 30-16

5-3 Buffalo Bill- Doug Whaley-

This is a breath of Fresh air in the AFC East with the dominant New England Patriots

The Buffalo Bills are circling the wagons early as they travel to East Rutherford, New Jersey and the dysfunctional New York Jets. Kyle Orton had easy day as the defense did most of the work creating six turnovers.

Orton tied a career high with his four TD passes, and won for the third time in four games since replacing EJ Manuel as the starting quarterback for the Bills (5-3).

Orton finished 10-17 with 238 yards, connecting with Robert WoodsLee Smith, Scott Chandler, and Sammy Watkins for touchdowns.

The Buffalo Bills win 43-23

3-4 The New York Football Giant Jerry Reese- BYE WEEK

0-7 Oakland Raider Reggie McKenzie-

rad

The Black and Silver are the only winless team in 2014 as they travel to Cleveland to play the new and improved Browns.

This game was not an offensive show as the Browns and Raiders had a 9-6 halftime score with five field-goals.

Derek Carr (34-54 with 328 yards and one touchdown) showed glimpses of greatness but lapsed into rookie mistakes that hurt Oakland late in the game.

It could be a very long year for the City by the Bay and many will be dreaming of the Raiders that wore real SILVER numbers and won Monday Night Games every year

This also could be the end of the road for McKenzie as general manager he was given a pass last year because of the rookie coach. The Black and Silver might be in for a complete makeover because the pieces on the field do not fit.

Oakland loses 23-13

TOTAL 25-22

WEEK 3-2 Black Ownership -0- This is a Black Eye in the NFL pun intended. Black ownership should be addressed by The National Football League.
