Week #4 NFL BLACK QUARTERBACKS BY THE NUMBERS
Week #4 NFL BLACK QUARTERBACKS BY THE NUMBERS
By: Gary Norris Gray – BASN Staff Reporter
Last year African-American quarterbacks reached for the stars with success. One weekend on the grid-iron ten Black quarterbacks
started and garnered a 7-1 record with two injuries and two no decisions in week number seven. That was history but the American
Sports media did not even notice nor report it. The question should be asked why only six quarterbacks of color are starting in the National Football League?
The National Football League moves into the first quarter pole of the season. The real teams can now stand up and be counted, while
others begin their road to rebuilding in the 2015 season.
This week’s games
The N.Y. Football Giants vs. The Wash. Football Club- Thurs night
Miami vs. Oakland
Detroit vs. New York Jets
Tampa Bay vs. Pittsburgh
Carolina vs. Baltimore
Buffalo vs. Houston
Atlanta vs. Minnesota
Philadelphia vs. San Francisco
*1) 2-2 E.J Manuel-Buffalo Bills- Buffalo took a commanding led in the first half and were marching to the best start in 25 years but that all changed in the 2nd half. E.J (21-44 for 225 yards with 2 interceptions, 2 sacks, and 2 touchdowns) tried hard to rally the Bills to victory but came up short in the last drive of the fourth quarter. The backbreaker to a crisp Buffalo drive was broken down by Texan linebacker
J.J. Watts 80 yard touchdown interception and a Houston 23-17 victory.
*2) 1-2 Cam Newton- Carolina Panthers- The Panthers were never in this game. That ten percent of the mental game went to the
Baltimore Ravens. Cam Newton did not want to see ex-teammate wide out Steve Smith. Smith waited for this game all year long as the
Baltimore Ravens win 38-10, scoring two touchdowns. A frustrating day for Superman as he went 14-25 and 197 yards, with two sacks,
and one interception. He does not have the receivers to help his game and the Panthers could be in for a long season.
*3) 2-1 Russell Wilson- Seattle Seahawks- BYE WEEK
*4) 2-2 Colin Kaepernick- San Francisco 49ers-Kaepernick had to face the music of the press on the issue of the language penalties a
week ago. This team seems like it is falling apart at the seams in the locker-room. The Niners made so many mistakes the first half that it seemed like they were headed for loss number three. The blocked punt, the called time outs on fourth down, and the poor clock management continued. The Cherry and Gold pull it together in the second half to defeat the Philadelphia Eagles 26-21. Running back Frank Gore ran the ball down the Eagles neck and carried the West Bay Team with 119 yards rushing in 24 carries. Gore was the key to a San Francisco victory in a tough defensive struggle.
was enough for a victory. The great play was his 17 yard run. This game was a mirror of Kap’s professional career. The Eagles
did not cross midfield until the fourth quarter and the last drive. The Niners slowed down the Eagle offense and shutdown quarterback
Nick Foles. Philadelphia misses DeSean Jackson, this game proves it. The rumblings continue about Harbaugh’s job security in San
Francisco. Nest question, Where is Crabtree?
*5) 1-3 Geno Smith- New York Jets- Smith showed some of his immaturity Sunday afternoon swearing at the fans at Met Life Stadium. The Michael Vick watch just begun with those same fans screaming for Mike Vick. The New York Jets lose to the Detroit Lions 24-17. Geno Smith (17-33 and 2209 yards, with one sack, two interceptions, and one touchdown) did everything but win the game. New York fans don’t see the positive side, Smith has improved. Lion quarterback Matthew Stafford blew up the Jet defense by throwing three touchdowns.
*6) 0-1 Robert Griffin III-The Washington Football Club- DID NOT PLAY The Washington Football Club did not show up against the New York Football Club, losing to the New York Football Giants 45-15 as quarterback Kurt Cousins threw three interceptions in the first half.
Then the Washington defense never suited up. This team gave up over 400 total yards to the GEE-men. Washington wants Robert Griffin III back in uniform ASAP.
PLEASE DO NOT USE FEDEX mailing services until this company extricated itself from supporting team owner Dan Snyder and the Washington
Football Clubs name. The corporate name of Fed Ex, should be removed from the stadium in Prince George County-Landover, Maryland.
*7) 1-0 Teddy Bridgewater-Minnesota Vikings-The Rookie made his debut due to the ankle injury to starter Matt Cassell. Cassell has a broken foot and may not take another snap this season. Bridgewater took control of this game with 19-30 for 319 yards and running for one touchdown before leaving the game with a high ankle sprain. The Vikings finished the game with Matt Asiata carrying the load for the purple and gold, running for three touchdowns and a 41-28 blowout against the Atlanta Falcons. The Minnesota Vikings are in good hands.
TOTAL -9-11 WEEK 2-3
1.) 2-2 Ron Rivera- Carolina Panthers-Latin Head Coach- Coach Rivera has to find help for Cam Newton. Cats are lucky to be at 500. Without a receiving corps this will continue for the power blue and black cats.
2.) 3-0 Marvin Lewis – Cincinnati Bengals-BYE WEEK
Must be nice to be in first place and not do anything.
3.) 2-2 Mike Tomlin- Pittsburgh Steelers- The Steelers blew this victory in the closing minutes. Big Ben Roethlisberger and the boys could not score in the fourth quarter and it cost them 27-24 to the winless Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
4.) 3-1 Jim Caldwell-Detroit Lions-Matthew Stafford guided the Lions Sunday knowing the Calvin Johnson would not be the star and had been hurting all week. Stafford went 24-34 for 293 yards and three touchdowns beating the Jets.
What are people going to say about Caldwell if he guides the Lions to playoffs or championship? Remember Mr. Caldwell four years ago engineered a 14-2 season for the Indianapolis Colts.
5.) 1-3 Lovie Smith- Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Lovie Smith gets his first victory in a heart stopper beating the Pittsburgh Steelers 27-24. Mike Glennon hit Vincent Jackson in the End zone with seven seconds left in the game. It might be a long season but Coach Smith might turn the Buc defense around reminding many of the good old days.

Black General Managers- 6
1.) 2-2 Buffalo Bill-Doug Whaley-SEE ABOVE
2.) 3-1 Houston Texan Rick Smith – SEE ABOVE
3.) 3-1 Baltimore Raven Ozzie Newsome- The Baltimore Ravens beat up on Cam Newton and the Carolina Cats. Joe Flacco had one of his better games 22-37 and 321 yards and three touchdowns with ex-Panther Steve Smith scoring two touchdowns for the Birds with an acrobatic circus catch in second quarter. Smith really wanted to show Carolina that they traded the wrong guy. That he (Smith) might be too old and that he could have helped Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers young receiving corps this year.
4.) 3-1 Detroit Lion Martin Mayhew-SEE ABOVE
5.) 2-2 The New York Football Giant Jerry Reese-Eli Manning and the New York offense finally show up getting the GEE-Men back to 500 at the season’s first quarter pole and back into the NFC East Race. In the second quarter the Giants scored 17 points on Washington miscues. Manning went 28-38 for 300 yards and 4 touchdowns. Eli shows off his dancing shoes as he scores on a one yard end-zone plunge. Larry Donnell can now state that he is the new Plaxico Burros for BIG BLUE with three touchdowns.
6.) 0-4 Oakland Raider Reggie McKenzie RAIDER NATION, PRIDE AND POISE, JUST WIN BABY!!!! are distant memories just as COMMITMENT TO EXCELLENCE seems to be fading thoughts in the Oakland Alameda County Coliseum. The Raiders visit London to play the Miami Dolphins and lose 38-14. Ryan Tannehill moved Miami down the field to another victory. Tannehill went (23-32 for 278 yards and two touchdowns). The game started out well for Oakland in the first quarter with a 80 yard drive by Carr and the Raiders but the SILVER and BLACK defense cannot hold the Fish out of the end zone. Too many defensive players on the (IR) Injured Reserved list and it showed on the field. It was a long flight home from England and to add insult, head coach Allen got his walking papers, his pink slip. Allen will no-longer guide the Silver and Black this year.
Carr had the team moving in the first quarter (16-29 for 146 yards, one touchdown, and one interception) gets injured in third quarter with MCL and high ankle sprain and left the game to backup McGloin(12-19 for 120 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions.) Mr. Allen was the first head coach fired because this was Oakland’s tenth loss in a row. Reggie McKenzie could be next one receiving his unemployment check.
