WEEK #1

By:- Gary Norris Gray- BASN Staff Reporter
Last year African American quarterbacks reached for the stars with success. One weekend on the grid-iron ten Black quarterbacks started and garnered a 7-1 record with two injuries and two no decisions in week number seven. That was history but the American Sports media did not even notice. The question should be asked why only six quarterbacks of color starting in the National Football League?
As we begin the 2014 season we have one additional African American Head Coach with the re-hiring of Lovie Smith in Tampa Bay from the Chicago Bears and Jim Caldwell in Detroit from the Indianapolis Colts. The Tony Dungy Tree and the Tampa Two Defense is alive and well in the NFL.
Dungy led the parade of Black Head coaches winning the Super Bowl in 2007 when the Indianapolis Colts defeated the Chicago Bears 29-17.rg3
Lovie Smith and Jim Caldwell led their previous respective teams to Super Bowl appearances in 2007 and 2010. The Pittsburgh Steeler head coach, Mike Tomlin rounded out the Black parade of coaches winning the Super Bowl in 2009 and losing the Super Bowl in 2011.
Baltimore Raven and New York Football Giant general managers Ozzie Newsome and Jerry Reese guided their teams to Super Bowl victories. The Giants beat the New England Patriots twice in 2008 and 2012. Baltimore defeated The San Francisco 49ers two years ago 34-31.

The Washington Football Club vs. Houston

* Black Quarterbacks- 6*
*1) 1-0 Russell Wilson- Seattle Seahawks- * The football version of the Jackson Five got cut down to three. The Hawks keep it moving in game one heading for a repeat championship.
General Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks took control of this game early in the third period. The University of California-Berkeley Golden Bear running back Marshawn Lynch ran all over the Green Bay Packers with 20 rushes for over 100 yards. The 2014 Super Bowl Champion Russell Wilson threw for two touchdowns and completed 19 passes for over 190 yards in 36-16 opening night Seattle victory.
*2) 0-0 Cam Newton- Carolina Panthers-* DID NOT PLAY Cam Newton will come into the 2014-15 season limping with various injuries. It was a game time decision not to start him.
*3) 1-0 Colin Kaepernick-San Francisco 49ers-* The Niners are chasing division rival Seattle for the NFC Western Division title already but they don’t play each other until the end of the season. The title could be on the line with an extra home game in the playoffs.colin
The Niners lost another star defensive player last week, linemen Ray McDonald due to an alleged domestic violence charge in Northern California. That’s number three. While the Dallas Cowboys picked up linebacker Michael Sams from the St. Louis Rams.
The Niners took control of this game early with a balance attack beating the hapless Dallas Cowboys getting a 17-7 lead before the first half ended. Niners win 28-17 and the game was not that close. Three Romo interceptions and four sacks helped the San Francisco defense.Kaepernick went 16 for 23 with 201 yards and two touchdowns. Running back Frank Gore helped Kap with formidable ground game. Now it’s on to the new Levis Stadium in Santa Clara, California
*4) 1-0 Geno Smith- New York Jets- * The question who will start this season in New York I mean New Jersey. Many are watching to see when veteran Michael Vick enters the field too spell the second year quarterback. We all know how patient New York fans are when their team is losing. Smith started out slowly but picked it up in the second half. The Jets beat Oakland Raiders 19-13 on a 71 run from Chris Ivory to seal the game. Smith went 23 for 28 for 221 yards with one interception, one fumble, and one touchdown
*5) 1-0 E.J. Manuel-Buffalo Bills- * The Bills stun the Chicago Bears in overtime. E.J. guided them into field goal range with great passing 16 for 22 and 173 yards with one ejinterception, one touchdown, and one running touchdown and a 23-20 victory. Running back Fred Jackson ran the Buffalo Bills into a game closing field goal
*6) 0-1 Robert Griffin III- The Washington Football Club-* There is a new head coach (Jay Gruden-brother of John-a.k.a. Chuckie) in town with a new offensive philosophy. Griffin looked good in pre season now he has to translate that into the regular season. Having The University of California-Berkeley Golden Bear and ex Philadelphia Eagle wide receiver DeSean Jackson helps.
Griffin and the Washington Football Club had a very difficult day with the Houston Texans losing 17-6 RGIII went 29 for 37 with 237 yards and three fumbles.
Griffin would not get help from the burgundy and gold defense as the Texans ran over Washington all day long.
PLEASE DO NOT USE FEDEX until this company stops supporting Dan Snyder and the Washington team name. The corporate name of FedEx, should be removed from the stadium.
TOTAL-4-1
Black Head Coaches- 4
1-0 Ron Rivera- Carolina Panthers-Latin Head Coach- Super sub quarterback Derek Anderson guided the Cats to their first victory of the year over the Tampa Bay Bucs, holding on to the lead the second half. Carolina wins 17-14 getting early lead and putting up strong defense shutting down Josh McCown
1-0 Marvin Lewis – Cincinnati Bengals- The question still remains in the Queen City, do they have a defense in Cincinnati as they blow 15 point lead in second half. Wide receiver A.J. Green caught the winning touchdown with time running out in the fourth quarter. Cinn. Bengals beat Baltimore Ravens 23-16.
r0n1-0 Mike Tomlin- Pittsburgh Steelers- Tomlin might be on a short leash so the Steelers with Big Ben Roethlisberger at quarterback must win early. The Steelers are beginning to see their window closing for another championship. The core members of the TEFLON CURTIN are now senior citizens and other teams will take advantage and run on the defense.
The Steelers blow a 24 point lead to Cleveland Browns in the second half. Big Ben and Markus Wheaton connected twice on final drive as the Steelers win
0-1 Lovie Smith- Tampa Bay Buccaneers- The Tampa Two defense returns to the Florida Bay Area with Smith guiding the Bucs towards the playoffs. The Bucs let this game get away early. Tampa Bay tried to rally in fourth quarter but could not catch Carolina 20-14 final. Jim Caldwell- Detroit Lions- The Ford Motor Company might also be playing the Tampa Two Defense with Caldwell leading the way.
TOTAL 3-1
Black General Managers-6

1-0 Buffalo Bill- Doug Whaley-The New man on the block. The Bills have many issues to deal with, like moving to Canada or building a new stadium at the future Buffalo Outer Harbor Stadium Complex. Issues like healing the front office battles and communicating team needs or playing football. The old guard vs. the new guard, they have to settle this quickly if the Buffalo Bills are going to move into the playoffs this year. They start out right with first victory.

1-0 Detroit Lion Martin Mayhew- The Lions are a rudderless ship in the NFC North division and Mayhew might find the right direction. Detroit has the defense but they just don’t score costing them at least three games last year. How can you lose with six foot five inch Calvin Johnson- don’t call Megatron on the field? Johnson is the fastest man on the field.
The cats started the season in the right direction as the defense stood up the New York Football Giants offense at halftime this game was over 27-7. Could it be Mr. Stafford has grown up to lead the Lions toward a division title. Matthew Stafford threw for over 300 yards, in over 30 attempts, two touchdowns and running for one touchdown in the 35-14 Lion victory.untitled

1-0 Houston Texan Rick Smith- The Texans beat up the Washington Football Club 17-6 and the score did not tell the story. Too many mistakes by the capitol city team and Houston took advantage. J.J. Watts and the Houston defense stood tall in victory. Bad news is that their number one draft pick had a injury, Jadevon Clowney had unclassified knee problems.
0-1 The New York Football Giant Jerry Reese- The Giants installed a new offense for Eli Manning and BIG BLUE. Ben McAdoo will lead that offense in New York oh I mean New Jersey. Halfback Rashad Jennings will take the pressure off of wide out Victor Cruz. It did not work and the GEE-MEN have to find another way to gain a victory. Eli looked confused at times and threw two interceptions.
BIG BLUE never got off the ground scoring only twice in the game. Detriot kept the Giants off the field and wearing out the New York defense. Giants missed Justin Tuck and it showed as Detroit ran the ball downtown on the northeast team.
New York loses 35-14.
0-1 Baltimore Raven Ozzie Newsome- Newsome is the old man of this bunch and the people in Baltimore were very disappointed in last year’s performance of the purple birds. Many fans are still questioning the BIG contract of quarterback Joe Flacco and the performance of the team.
0-1 Oakland Raider Reggie McKenzie- has to improve their defense to move away from the twelve straight years of not achieving a winning record. Signing veteran linebackers Justin camnewtonTuck, and LaMarr Woodley with free safety Charles Woodson may improve this chance.
The Silver and Black are also taking their chances with young Head Coach Dennis Allen, a work in progress. RAIDER NATION stay tune.
The Oakland crowd will know after the fifth game of the season with the Jets, Houston, Patriots, Miami, and San Diego. It was a good move to start rookie quarterback Derek Carr of the Fresno State Bulldogs.
JUST WIN BABY!!!!
It was a valiant effort by Carr and the Raiders as they lose their 14th straight game in the Eastern Time zone. The New York-New Jersey Jets win 19-13.
TOTAL 3-3
Black Ownership -0- This is a Black Eye in the NFL pun intended.
Black ownership should be addressed by The National Football League.

Just found this website specifically geared toward “black athletes” and I’ve enjoyed the couple of articles I’ve read so far. I have one question though, why are we as “black folk” defending a nation of people for a so called racist name when these same people were slave masters, slave catchers, and also profited lovely from these acts? With the exception of the Seminole tribe who actually treated their slaves like people, these other tribes were just as nasty as the white slave masters and didn’t want to let our people go either until they were forced to do it. I just recently found out this info and was very shocked, appalled and disappointed. Check out on Youtube “black slaves, red masters”. These people wont put up the same fight that we’re doing for them, to get the Declaration of Independence changed stating that we’re only 3/5 of a man. I don’t think we should give a damn about them or the REDSKINS name. They’re no different from all the other races who have treated us like ish! Just putting this info out there for you and everyone else of our nation who didn’t know. Just something we all should think about before we call ourselves supporting people who don’t except us as equals neither!
