Venus Williams can do some damage at the upcoming US Open.
Yes, Venus we said.
The older Williams sister entered 2014 ranked no. 47 in the world.
She stayed relatively injury free for the first time in years and is now ranked no. 20. Many thought that she would never make the top 20 again due to injuries and illness.
In the process, she won the Dubai Tennis Championships and is 24-11 on the season entering the Open.
She had a huge 6-7,6-2,6-3 win over Serena in the Rogers Cup in Montreal, en route to making it all the way to the finals.
Her serve looks as powerful as her serve of old and her ground strokes are crisp again.
Venus will be a dangerous out for some top ranked player, probably as early as the 3rd round of the Open, to be competed at Flushing Meadows, beginning August 25.
She is seeded no. 19 and has an excellent draw. Importantly, she is on the bottom half of the draw and sister Serena, who opens against Taylor Townsend, is on the top half.
