Boston Celtics had a very successful NBA Draft and had brought their two first round picks Marcus Smart and James Young to the NBA Summer League in Orlando. The Boston Celtics released their roster for the Summer League and the team is full of hungry players that are looking to make an NBA roster. Kelly Olynyk is on the Boston Celtics Summer League roster as a returning player and also Phil Pressey as well. Below is the roster for the Boston Celtics Summer League
The Boston Celtics started off their Summer League stint facing the Miami Heat and Shabazz Napier. The Celtics showed the experience on the court and they didn’t get rattled. The Celtics put Smart and Pressey on Napier and held him to shooting (3-15) from the field. The hometown kid ran into the Celtics new hometown kids in Smart and Pressey. Phil Pressey came into the game looking very hungry like it was his last game playing basketball. Phil was all over the place and looked very improved in his game from his shot all the way to his defense. Phil still had some jitters he had 9 points and 6 turnovers but his defense on Napier made up for it. His crossover on Napier got the team into the game and that built the team chemistry. It’s just day one of the Summer League and he will produce and only get better check out the crossover on Napier below.
Kelly Olynyk played a great game and you can tell that he doesn’t need to be on this Summer League roster at all. Kelly looked like a man among boys out there. Kelly had 20 points and looked like he developed some build during the offseason. Kelly is using this experience to better his game out there. Kelly already knows the system of the Celtics just like Phil and they both played to the top of their game today against Miami. Kelly had the jumper going and the inside game was working too.
Marcus Smart was commanding the court like a PG should and he did have some jitters but he had 10 points and 5 steals in his debut. Marcus showed a lot of promise and its only his first game. The defense that he played on Napier was very impressive and the Celtics feel like he can grow in every phase of his game. Marcus talked to media about his first game as a pro below.
Shabazz Napier was definitely frustrated out there on the court but its not UConn its the NBA. It’s the Summer League and its a new team that he has to learn how to gel with in a short span of time. Napier will bounce back and he will be a great addition to the Heat and he will be the leader of their Summer League team below is a interview with Napier.
The Celtics won 85-77 against the Heat and they play on Monday against the Pacers who got destroyed by the Nets today in the Summer League.
