The Celtics come into this game 13-19 and were looking for a spark as the new year hasn’t started as good as they expected it too. The Celtics couldn’t stop the Pelicans down the stretch and they didn’t seem to have the fight at the end of the game. Anthony Davis was a manchild in the paint as he had 23 points and 9 rebounds. He commanded the paint and did what ever he pleased from the mid-range all the way to the basket. Sullinger was guarding Davis and wasn’t a huge factor especially with his hand brace. Sullinger took his brace off at the beginning of the 4th quarter and showed true signs of getting back into the swing of things as he had 13 points and 11 rebounds.

The coaching decisions of Brad Stevens need to be questioned too as the last 2 games in late game decisions he has made the wrong move as a coach. Tonight against the Pelicans down by 1 he choose not to take a timeout and let them play it out and they actually got forced into a 24 second violation instead of drawing up a great play. The Celtics struggled down the stretch with execution and it has to be noted that they didn’t defend well down the stretch. Avery Bradley had a great first 3 quarters and then disappeared in the 4th quarter when he was the hottest player in the game on the Celtics roster shooting lights out.

The Celtics will now hit the road on a tough road trip that will test their ability to win and also their team chemistry as a whole.
