They aren’t seeded this year, but they may again be the best women’s doubles team in the world. They sure looked like it yesterday in beating Americans, Raquel Kops-Jones and Abigail Spears, 6-4, 6-4.
They are the Williams sisters.
Would Serena be playing the afternoon after a late night match if not because her older sister Venus really enjoys doubles? Probably not. But that shows just how close they are.
They are now in the third round of the Open and Serena is assured of playing virtually each day for the remainder of the Open in singles and doubles, if she keeps winning.
They reached the world no. 1 ranking in doubles in June, 2010.
They have 13 Grand Slam doubles wins and 3 Olympic Gold medals.
Obviously, they bring out the best in each other. Serena serving and Venus at net is a tough combination to beat.
Will they win it all. Tough to say, but let’s leave it at this.
Serena will win at least one of the Open titles this year and probably two.And don’t count out next year as well.
