by Richard Kent, BASN Staff ReporterCONNECTICUT (BASN)– She may not win the US Open in 2013. But make no mistake about it she will win it some day and other Majors as well.

She is Sloane Stephens and she is the future of American women’s tennis. Stephens, currently ranked no. 17 in the world was once no. 15.

She also owns a victory over Serena Williams, one of her inspirations at this year’s Australian Open. Her other inspirations are Kim Clijsters and Venus Williams.

She also defeated Maria Sharapova this past Tuesday in Cincinnati.

Stephens will play in the New Haven Open this week, for the 3rd straight year, before making the short trek to Flushing Meadows, where in the past 2 years she has made it to the 3rd Round.

Stephens has an all-court game, honed in part by playing both singles and doubles. She is marvelously fit and can run the court all day in competing against an opponent.

Her serve is marvelously improved over last year, as is her confidence. She now believes that she can win a Major. That may have not been the case last year.Stephens is a huge fan favorite in New York and has an avid twitter following, one of the biggest in all of sports.

The draw has not been made yet for the Open, but with some luck, combined with her skill, look for Stephens to make a deep run in the event starting on August 26.
