Could this be it? Her last run at a Grand Slam title. Doubtful, but anything is possible with former world no. 1 Venus Williams, now 33.

She is now ranked no. 60 and is slowed by injuries. She is unranked at the Open.

Williams will be making yet another appearance at the Open, starting Monday. She has won the event twice and has 7 Grand Slam singles wins along with a slew of Grand Slam doubles wins. She won a Gold at the 2012 Olympics.

She faces Kirsten Flipkens on the opening day in the afternoon. Flipkens was a semifinalist at Wimbledon and is having the finest year of her career. She beat Willams a few weeks ago, despite losing the first set, 6-0. That is how streaky Venus has become late in her career.

Last year, Williams played a riveting second round match, maybe the best women’s match of the year, losing in almost 3 hours to then no. 6 Angelique Kerber, 6-2. 5-7, 7-5.

At her pre-Tournament press conference, sister Serena urged the media not to write off Venus. If past is prologue, she is probably right.
