The Talented Ms.Townsend
by Richard Kent BASN Staff Reporter
CONNECTICUT(BASN) – She is a lefty with much power on the forehand side.
She is also a great doubles player. She doubles experience, especially with her volley has helped her singles game.
17-year-old Taylor Townsend should be a force at the US Open Juniors, starting in three weeks, in both singles and doubles. She might even get a wild card into the main draw.
A native of Chicago, Townsend won the Australian Open Juniors and the US Open Junior doubles in 2012. She was a finalist for the Wimbledon Junior crown this year.
She has not had much success this year in senior level events, but is working on her game at the junior level under the tutelage of the USTA. She is a powerful player.
It is too early to tell what level Townsend will be at when she reaches age 20 or so, but right now and after Sloane Stephens, she stands as a force to be reckoned internationally.
The future of American women’s tennis looks bright with players at the level of Townsend competing for crowns.
