NEW YORK, NY (BASN)
—There are worse things than being the top ranked junior in the world. That is the status that American Taylor Townsend occupies.

She relishes it.

The 16 year old lefty from Stockbridge,Georgia has reached a career high no. 420 in the world.
She is currently entered in the girls’ singles at the US Open. She is the favorite to win.
Townsend won the Australian girls’ singles in January and the Australian and Wimbledon girls’ doubles.
Townsend has an all court game and her doubles play has improved her singles play.
She opened up her title run with a 6-3,6-3 win and plays again Tuesday.
She counts Richard Williams as one of her big admirers and after watching her win a match took her to meet one of her idols, Serena.
She grew up in Chicago and her family was close to the Donald Young family. Both families moved to Georgia for the better tennis weather.
She currently trains in Boca Raton but plays a world-wide schedule.
