DENVER, CO.(BASN)–Tokenism . . . versus “The First,” a pioneer, a trail blazer I’d like to imagine those words and terms floated-around in mind of Condolezza Rice, creating a “dilemma” for this member of Republican royalty when the the Augusta National Golf Club, home of the Masters tournament, which has excluded women as members throughout its 80-year history accepted her as a member. But in reality, I doubt she’ll struggle going through the doors of Augusta, she’s long-ago gone-over to the dark-side, decades ago, betraying the most-commonly held political ideas like-skinned black skin people like herself was born into. Yes, this invite would present a problem . . . If she hadn’t already sold-out to the elitist White male establishment she sings and dances for. I have to question if Rice knew she was being weighed, measured and pounded by the Augusta hierarchy. Or if she was on that short list of women, Black women specifically deemed acceptable when the time came, and they need not ask, they knew Rice would accept and say all the right things. If she were not a well used tool, Miss. Rice would find herself in a peculiar predicament, stuck between doing the “right thing,” and doing the wrong thing, being an supposed “Pioneer . . .” or a useful idiot. Nonetheless . . . if she’s brutally honest with herself, she’ll easily recognize the Augusta Country Club has long had the option to allow women in behind their locked doors . . . No Penis/ No Entry , However they’ve chosen, deliberately-so, to deny women entrance. And lord knows there were women well before Rice whose accomplishments and social status, had they had a penis, they would have been in decades ago. So understanding Augusta could have taken down the No Women signs when they took down the No Niggers signs almost a quarter century ago, however they decided not to – this decision on Rices part, and the corresponding rejection ought be a no brainier for Rice. Call me crazy, call me logical, practical and blessed with the common sense the gods granted me . . . It’s a “given” Rice will accept their invitation because she can’t grasp the merit in standing-up-to the White male power structure, one of which she’s bent-over for all her adult-life, such a defiant rebuff has more honor and dignity to it, then being pimped and exploited by an sports institution which is synonymous with elitist Southern crackers . . . To make this a even more interesting . . . one could argue this sports stage is being co-opted by politics. Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan are the benefactors of a massive effort on the behalf of Angry White folks, from Thurston Howell III aristocrats to Ricky Bobby trailer park trash residents who’ve concluded “that boy in the White House must go” and it’s not too-much of a stretch to accept the Republican TEA Party has elements in their ranks from Main Street to Wall St.. to the golf greens who understand the importance of changing the current climate in the US- where the belief is conservatives (White men) are engaged in a war on women.
Merely look-to Republican TEA Party Congressman Todd Akin’s words about “legitimate rapes” and “magical vaginas” if you question a war exist. Augusta is much more than a golf course, club or tournament – its a vivid example of sexism, racism and elitism embedded in an American institution – it’s a cultural battle unto itself, which ought be criticized, condemned and shunned for having to be, in the 21st century, bragged, kickin’ n’ screamin’ into the 20th century, not glorified and enhanced by women willingly obliging them, helping Augusta to camouflage the contempt and disdain it’s membership has held for women since its inception. My fear is if they ask Condi to go-around to the back door, because that’s where “the help” enters . . . she might gladly do it.
