Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame 2012
The festivities will begin Friday, June 8, with a private inductee welcome event at the WBHOF at 6 p.m. Friday night’s event will be open to WBHOF inductees, past and present, their family and friends, and WBHOF Board Members. ESPN Women’s Basketball analyst, Debbie Antonelli, will host a storytelling session for all in attendance. In addition to the official unveiling of the Class of 2012 exhibits in the Hall of Honor, each member of the Class of 2012 will receive a diamond WBHOF pin and a commemorative autographed basketball during a special presentation.
Saturday’s events will kick off bright and early as those gathered in Knoxville for Induction weekend join Knoxville residents to participate in the Fourth Annual 4KayÂ® Run/Walk at 8 a.m. The 4KayÂ® Run/Walk is held in honor of the late Women’s Basketball Hall of Famer and North Carolina State coach Kay Yow, who lost her battle with breast cancer in January of 2009. Proceeds from the race will benefit women’s cancer research through the Kay Yow Cancer FundÂ®. At 9:30 a.m. the 4KayÂ® Run/Walk Awards presentation will take place at the WBHOF follow by a 10:00 a.m.

The WBHOF will be open to the public, free of charge, from 7 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Saturday. The Induction Ceremony will begin at the Bijou Theatre at 7 p.m. and guests will be invited to attend a Post-Induction Celebration and Silent Auction at the WBHOF at 9 p.m. All proceeds from the silent auction will benefit the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame.
The Induction Ceremony will be hosted by ESPN women’s Basketball Analyst and Hall of Fame Board Member Debbie Antonelli. During the ceremony, “The Dream,” the WBHOF’s official theme song, will be performed by Evelyn Jack. In addition to celebrating each inductee’s crowning basketball achievements with the presentation of “The Eastman” award, the Induction ceremony will feature the music of the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra and the WBHOF Choir.
During the 2012 Induction, the WBHOF will observe the following special hours for the general public: Friday, June 8, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.; Saturday, June 9, 7 a.m. – 3 p.m. (free to the public) ; Sunday, June 10, 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. Highlights of the museum include a 17-foot bronze statue in the WBHOF lobby that pays tribute to the Hall’s mission to “Honor the Past, Celebrate the Present, and Promote the Future” of women’s basketball; “Modern Locker Room,” an interactive exhibit that allows fans to view six coaches during their pre-game and half-time pep talks; State Farm’s Tip-Off Theatre that shows a 17-minute movie, “Hoopful of Hope,” chronicling the history of women’s basketball; “Hall of Honor,” presenting Hall of Fame inductees, their achievements and mementos; a 24-foot 1966 Air-Porter Pontiac limo that transported the legendary All American Red Heads basketball team across America; and a new interactive exhibit highlighting great accomplishments in women’s basketball in an unique and fun way.
