Chris Algieri headlines ‘Paramount’ fight card
NEW YORK, NY. (BASN)–Tonight at the popular Paramount Theater in Huntington, NY, hometown favorite Chris Algieri (13-0, 6 KOs) will put his perfect record on the line against Rochester’s Winston Mathis (7-4-2, 2 KOs) in a scheduled 10-round junior welterweight bout. The event is promoted by Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing.
In his last bout on January 28, Algieri, a pre-med student, will be fighting for the third consecutive time at the Paramount. His promoter DeGuardia is extremely excited.
“We’re very proud to return to The Paramount on March 31st,” De Guardia stated. “The Long Island fans have been extremely supportive of our first two events with both shows selling out and Chris is excited to fight in front of his hometown fans again.”
Mathis is no soft-touch for the ‘Pride of Huntington.’ Mathis is remembered for his dramatic six-round fight with rising contender Gabriel Bracero.
Known as ‘The Rochester Reaper”, Mathis, 7-4-1 (2KO’s), has faced numerous undefeated, highly regarded prospects including Jose Benavidez, Gabriel Bracero and Jake Giuriceo.
New York fight fans will remember Mathis’ terrific six round war with the then-undefeated Bracero on March 31, 2010.
‘Rocking Fights 3′ will consist of a massive undercard in support of Chris Algieri’s main event showcase against Winston Mathis. The co-featured attraction will include ‘The Hebrew Hammer’ Cletus Seldin (6-0, 4 KOs) battling 21 year-old southpaw, Marcus Hall (5-4-1, 2 KOs).
Seldin, 25, a former bodybuilding titlist, has won his last three bouts, via stoppage.
Welterweights Emmanuel Lartey (12-1-1, 7 KOs) of Ghana will fight Puerto Rico’s Carlos Ramos (4-4-, 3 KOs) in a scheduled six-round attraction.
Brazil’s Rich Neves (2-0-1, 1 KO), now residing in New Hyde Park, NY, can expect a challenge from Albany’s Joey Yerdon (2-3-2) in a scheduled four-round junior middleweight contest.
Haitian heavyweight Jacques Louis (2-1) will compete in a four-round bout against Central Islips’s Clyde Daniels (making his pro debut).
Middleweight upstart Raul Nuncio (1-0-1, 1 KO) will face Valadrin Muriqui (2-1).
Super middleweights Danny Netzer (1-0) of Tel Aviv will challenge Albany’s Steve Tyner (2-3-1-, 2 KOs).
