Celtics on a role…

BOSTON, MA. (BASN)—The Boston Celtics have been on a roll as of lately and seem to be getting their grove back. The Celtics have been playing Celtics basketball ever since their encounter with the rookie of the year Kyrie Irving. Seems to me as if things are shaping up how they wanted it to be because, their defense is playing good basketball and also they have found their offensive stroke as Paul Pierce has waken up from the lockout. Paul Pierce these last couple of games has put up vintage Pierce numbers leading the team in majority of the games in Rondo’s absence.

The Celtics had barley got past the Cavs as they beat them 93-90 on the road after Kyrie Irving’s game winner against them at the garden. With the Toronto Raptors coming into town the Celtics wanted to make a huge impact as they were trying to get back on the winning side of things and get above .500 as a team. The Celtics bench and starters took it upon themselves to make sure that the Raptors didn’t leave the garden with a win because, the defense held them to 34% shooting for the night completely blanketing their offense holding them to 64 points. The Celtics brought their team effort out beating the Raptors 100-64 which was an appetizer for the New York Knicks strolling into town for a big conference match up.

The New York Knicks were coming into this game after man handling the Pistons 113-86 and looked up for the challenge to try to repeat what happened on Christmas Day in the garden. The Celtics knew coming into the game they were going to have to get on the defensive rebounds and also try to stop the scoring machine we call Carmelo Anthony. Doc Said ” Anytime you have to teams that have played each other so much there is always going to be history”. The Celtics were also getting back Rajon Rondo which was very huge because he was coming off his wrist sprain that happened against the Raptors which he missed 8 games due to it.

The Celtics and Knicks game was a true test for the Celtics because, they needed to beat an opponent that has been on the ropes to lift their team up to above .500 for the season.

The Celtics came out a little nervous as you can see Rondo was making turnovers that he usually would never make and was rushing the offense as well. Rondo’s play wasn’t like himself and coming off enjoy with no practice time he had to try to get back in the swing of things. Rondo didn’t have Rondo numbers but he acted as a decoy to free up someone very familiar that was in the swing of things Paul Pierce.

Paul Pierce aka “The Truth” doesn’t get the credit he deserves and I don’t know why the man performs when his team needs him the most. Over the years if you look at some of the big match ups the Celtics have had number 34 has always lead the team thru triumph. Pierce has the hardest job because, he has to guard Kobe,Lebron,Carmelo and etc while playing his offense for his team to stay in the game and that didn’t change when he met up with Carmelo in the TD Garden. It was a shoot out from the beginning of the game to the end as Carmelo had 26 points and Paul Pierce had matched it by scoring 30 points and the crowd was loud for every single shot he made. I asked Carmelo , What was the game plan going into the game on Pierce? he replied ” I have upmost respect for Paul and when we play its always a battle, we just needed to contain him.”Pierce looks to be getting in shape and so is the team as they beat the Knicks 91-89 it was a total team effort and thats what Doc Rivers said they needed in order to pull this win out and they did just that.

The more and more the Celtics keep winning you can see them gelling together as one to build on the team chemistry. Heading into sunday’s game against the Grizzles the Celtics have been working good on all cylinders rebounding, scoring you name and they wanted to continue that. Coming into the game sunday Kevin Garnett broke became 3rd all time is rebounding reaching the 10,000 rebounds club but also he wanted to show there was more to his game than rebounding and the 18 footer he showed off his 3 point ability. Kevin Garnett hit a 3 pointer in 3 straight games and was asked if he was going to be the next Rasheed Wallace, Kevin replied ” “You all acting like I can’t shoot, you all know I can make it”. KG had a great game against the Grizzles leading the team with 24 points scoring and 9 rebounds as Pierce chipped in with 21 points. The Celtics beat the Grizzle 98-80 even though Rudy Gay had a good offensive game but, in the NBA defense wins games and the Celtics held them to 36% shooting from the field. The Celtics brought out their A game against the Grizzles as they go to (13-10) on the season.

This week will test the Celtics to see if they are a championship caliber team because, tuesday night they have the Bobcats which I see the Celtics winning but after that they host the Lakers and the Bulls two power houses in the league. The Celtics are getting their groove back at the right time and the second unit with Michael Pietrus,Bass and Wilcox are starting to shape up into a good full roster. The Celtics defense would need to stop Kobe and Derrick Rose this week and if they play how they have been playing which is Celtics basketball there is a chance that they can pull both of those games off so that they get some respect in the sports world again.
