ATLANTIC CITY, NJ—Rob Jones would be key addition to Pistons
If history paints a picture of reality, Rob Jones paints a picture of perseverance.
The grandson of the infamous Jim Jones, Rob Jones has had to overcome this tragic legacy everyday of his life and much like his father who was saved on a basketball court, Rob Jones has evolved into a man and a basketball player we can all admire and whom represents everything the people of Detroit stand for.
Before we delve into who the player is, we need to address the history. On November 18, 1978 in Guyana South America, the Rev. Jim Hones convinced over 900 people to commit a mass suicide or at least that is what the history book will tell you. If you speak to survivors, many will be adamant in their stance that this tragedy was actually a murder. One of the survivors in Guyana was Jim Jones Jr. whom is the adopted son of the Reverend Jim Jones. It was Jones Jr., along with others whom were playing with the Jonestown Basketball team in the country’s capital of Georgetown during the tragedy. Basketball saved the life of Jim Jones Jr. Basketball has molded the life of his son Rob Jones.
In a word, Rob Jones is a winner. While he averaged 13.8 points and 7.7 rebounds for the Saint Mary Gaels, he proved to be a presence on defense throughout his college basketball career. A leader on and off of the court, Rob Jones has the courage and endurance to make an impact at the next level.
As for our Detroit Pistons, we have been in a tailspin. The glory days of the team lead by Rick Carlisle and Larry Brown have become a distant memory and the Palace at Auburn Hills is not the fearful advantage it used to be.
With the NBA Draft on Wednesday, many feel the crop of college athletes is a weak class. One player that has slipped under the radar is Rob Jones. Rob Jones is a fighter and has worked hard for everything he has earned. Rob Jones is truly a special athlete that has not received the recognition he has deserved. Despite this, Jones has not been bitter. He has come to play hard each and everyday and will do anything the team needs to get the win. Rob Jones and would be a steal for Detroit to select in the second round of the 2011 NBA Draft.
Rob Jones exemplifies the attitude of the Detroit worker and having him in Piston Blue would be one more step for the franchise to make it back to greatness.
