Allen Iverson: Missing In Action
Even with the Three Kings in Miami, Super Man flying high in Orlando, and the newly named Nuggets in Denver, this particular NBA Playoffs still seems insufficient.
It’s not the absence of Shaquille O’Neal on the Boston Celtics bench, Manu Ginuboli’s embittered right elbow in San Antonio, or Amar’e Stoudmaire’s back spasms in New York.
It’s the nonappearance of Allen Iverson.
Yes, A.I. is AWOL from this year’s NBA playoffs.
The reason why I am resurrecting this future Hall of Famer’s name from the grave of NBA past is because the Memphis Grizzlies, the Philadelphia 76ers as well as the Denver Nuggets are all participating in the 2011 NBA Playoffs without him.
Yes, all of the former teams (except the Detroit Pistons) that A.I. once played for, are now in the NBA Playoffs.
I know Iverson, as he continues to party in Atlanta, regrets not accepting a lesser role by simply coming off the bench for one of these teams.
Because being the six man is better than being a club hopper.
Even though, the NBA playoffs will miss his competitiveness.
Sadly, the show must go on without him.
Because no one player is bigger than the game, even if that player is Allen Iverson.
