Wildcats are back on top

NEW YORK (BASN) — For the sixth time this year there is a new No.

1 atop the Boxtorow.com/BASN media and coaches polls.

With South Carolina State’s loss to Georgia Southern in the NCAA FCS Playoffs, the media and coaches voted Bethune-Cookman No.1 in the Boxtorow.com/BASN media and coaches polls.

The Wildcats received 12 of 20 first-place votes in the media poll while receiving six first place votes in the coaches poll. South Carolina State dropped to No.4 in the media poll, but only dropped one place to No.2 in the coaches poll.

Albany State defeated Wingate 30-28 in the second round of the NCAA Division II Playoffs this past Saturday and rose one spot to No. 2 in the media poll. The Golden Rams also received five first place votes.

Grambling State rose a spot to No. 3, while Nos. 5 – 8 – Texas Southern, Florida A&M, Tuskegee, and Jackson State – remained the same.

Morehouse (No.9) and Alabama State (No.10) changed places.

In the coaches poll, Grambling State (No. 4) and Florida A&M (No. 5) swapped places from a week ago. The 6 – 10 position remained the same as it was last week with Jackson State, Alabama State, Prairie View A&M, Hampton and Norfolk State all maintaining positions.

The NCAA FCS Playoffs continue this week as Bethune-Cookman, who received a first round bye, will host New Hampshire on Saturday in Daytona Beach, FL.

In the Division II Playoffs Albany State will host a quarterfinal match-up against Delta State.

There will not be a poll released next week and the final polls will be released along with the Boxtorow.com/BASN All-American team on Monday, December 13.

The voters on the media poll are comprised of some of the top media members in the country who cover HBCU football. The media poll is in its fourth year and the coaches poll is in its second.
