A Very American Coup By Michael – Louis Ingram, Editor-in-Chief...
Just in case you care……..
This was suppose to be a fight between Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather but negiotations broke down, so now we have this. Margarito is the biggest fighter that Pacquiao will face and he has own incentive since he is coming back from suspension.
The last time Margarito had a major fight, he got soundly beaten by Shane Mosley after Mosley’s camp found plaster materials on Margarito’s hand. For many boxing fans, there are those suspected that many of his big victories were aided by cheating.
As one pundit observed, Margarito became known as “hands of plaster.”
The question is whether Margarito can survive the early Pacquiao onslaught and if his size can wear the smaller Pacquiao out. As for team Pacquiao, this is the continuing search for more money and the “Pacman” is back fighting in Jerry Jones palace in Dallas.
At least, Cowboys fans will be spared another Cowboy collapse.
There are certain times that boxing is often its own worse enemy. Last weekend, both HBO and Showtime had great cards competing with each other. Can these promoters read a schedule and find a way to reschedule these big fights on different nights?
November 27th will again see another big card on both stations. Boxing promoters should realize they are competing against other sports and by piling up big boxing shows on the same day, they are merely cannibalizing each other.
Not a smart strategy.
So this week, in place of Mayweather-Pacquiao, we have Margarito-Pacquiao. If Pacquiao wins and Mayweather is able to put his legal trouble behind, maybe we might see the fight that boxing fans want to see.
