NEW YORK — For the first time this season, their is a change atop the latest edition of the BCF Power Rankings. Undefeated Bethune-Cookman (10-0) is this week’s new No. 1 team following Grambling State’s loss last week to Texas Southern. The BCF Power Rankings uses some of the same principles of the BCS including a pair of major HBCU weekly polls — Boxtorow.com/BASN HBCU top 10 media poll and the Black College Sports Page top 10 HBCU poll — and four computer polls. Two of the computer polls — Massey Ratings and Peter Wolfe Ratings — are used in the BCS rankings. The other two computer polls are Ashburn BCSC and Wilson. The formula is such that the mean of the rankings of each school in the human polls is added with the four computer polls to get the final top 10. The human polls count 67 percent and the computer polls count 33 percent. The Wildcats will look to clinch the MEAC title this weekend when they meet Florida A&M in the Florida Classic on Saturday in a nationally televised showdown. If Bethune-Cookman wins, the Wildcats will win the crown outright. The rest of the top five rankings include Grambling State (8-2) second, SIAC champion Albany State (10-0) third, South Carolina State (8-2) is fourth, and Texas Southern (7-3) is fifth. The Tigers can win the SWAC Eastern Division with a win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff Saturday. The bottom five of the rankings has Tuskegee (8-2) and Jackson State (7-3) tied for sixth, CIAA champion Shaw (9-2) is eighth, Florida A&M (7-3) ninth, and Morehouse (8-2) rounds out the top 10. The NCAA Division II Playoffs get underway this weekend as Shaw will play at Shepherd on Saturday while Morehouse will play at Wingate. Albany State will have a first round by and will host the winner of Morehouse/Wingate game on November 27th. Each week, the top 10 teams will be released. Fans and people with general interest can get a feel for where teams would be ranked if there were a BCS for HBCUs. BCF POWER RANKINGS (Records through November 15th) School W-L Avg. 1.
