NEW YORK — For the fifth time this year there is a new No. 1 atop the Boxtorow.com/BASN media and coaches polls.

South Carolina State, who had been No. 1 in both polls for the first five weeks before falling to Bethune-Cookman on October 16, regained the top spot, due in large part the Wildcat’s 38-27 loss to Florida A&M in the Florida Classic.

The Bulldogs received just two of 20 first-place votes in the media poll while receiving six of 12 first place votes in the coaches poll. Bethune-Cookman dropped one place to second and received seven first place votes in the media poll.

Despite its loss to Florida A&M, Bethune-Cookman will have a first round bye in the NCAA FCS Playoffs and will host a second round game against New Hampshire in Daytona Beach on December 4.

Albany State, who was not in action this past Saturday because of a first round bye in the NCAA Division II Playoffs dropped one slot to No.3, despite having the most first place votes (10).

Grambling State remained at No. 4 and Texas Southern remained No. 5 and clinched the SWAC Western Division crown with a 20-13 victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

Florida A&M made the largest jump from No. 10 to No. 6. Tuskegee is No. 7 followed by Jackson State at No. 8. Alabama State and Morehouse are No. 9 and No. 10, respectively.

In the coaches poll, Bethune-Cookman received four first place votes for a second place finish followed by Texas Southern at No. 3. Florida A&M and Grambling State switched places from last week and are No. 4 and No. 5 respectively.

The 6 through 10 positions remained the same as it was last week with Jackson State, Alabama State, Prairie View A&M, Hampton and Norfolk State all maintaining positions.

The NCAA FCS Playoffs get underway this week as South Carolina State received an at-large berth and will play at Georgia Southern. In the Division II Playoffs Albany State will host Wingate on Saturday.
